Jeff and I are both planning to get Nitrox certified prior to Wreckmania II. It was the one regret that Jeff had last year that he wasn't Nitrox certified. No one around here does it or has the capability to fill tanks so we had never really considered it. After talking to Herman and others, it seems like the next logical step for us.

I second Scuba-Sass' recommendation of using Priceline.com to book your rental car. I used them for Wreckmania I and got a very good deal. We actually got a car for the whole trip for less than cab rides back and forth to the airport would have cost us. We will probably get a minivan or SUV type vehicle this year since we will have dive and baby gear to haul. If anyone is flying in around the same time as us, you are welcome to a ride if you aren't planning on renting a car.

I have been checking out airfare prices to both Miami and Ft Lauderdale and have found from here the price is almost the same. About $250 round trip per person in case anyone is interested. I figure we will fly into Miami to cut the drive time.

I actually talked with Natasha about this when we first spoke about the trip. I was kind of hoping to do it before so I wasn't on task overload during that week but that may still be the best option. I will let you know. I am the kind of person who will need extra time on the math portion. Jeff is a chemist so he will probably be the honor student of Nitrox math. His DM class were all jealous of how easy the physics was for him. In fact, maybe I will get him to take Nitrox before we go to Wreckmania and I can take the class from you while I am down there so I don't have the added pressure of trying to do math with my husband.

I will let you know when it gets closer.

I know I said I couldn't come to Wreckmania II. However, Donna has been telling me that I should pull some money out of savings and go anyway. She knows I love diving as much as she loves flying. So, with the combination of Donna, Walter, and Natasha twisting my arm really hard. I relinquished and said yes.

Donna is a keeper. I can't figure out why she keeps me, though.

I have been reading all the posts and also have followed closely, Walter's pedigree. I may be easy, but nevertheless, I am impressed.

For that reason, Cindy and I are going to meet all you fine divers for Wreckmania II. We are regular Florida Keys divers which includes all the wrecks (except for the "Grove"). We are both looking forward to a different approach to wreck diving than what we have experienced with Jersey diving.

It is my desire to use this course to inflate my ego enough to apply for my NAUI wreck diving instructor card. Natasha, the check's in the mail.

Most of you know I was in Key Largo diving last weekend, but I didn't post where I stayed. I checked out the Holiday Inn at MM 100, where we'll be staying next year, and found some very nice accomadations. They have a nice breakfast buffet every moring ($8.95), two pools, a Jacuzzi and a welcome, for me, hot tub. There is a Tikki bar outside in the pool area and they had live entertainment the Friday and Saturday Beth and I were there. There's plenty of parking and restaurants close by for our evening meals. The rooms have a small refrigerator and are very comfortable. All in all, I think everyone will enjoy staying there during Wreckmania. I must go. Of all the days to have a hop up to Greensboro.... At least it's just a pickup and immediate return. Natasha, you've done good again! :tree: Bob

Just wanted to provide you some info on your upcoming trip to Key Largo...
Concerning Nitrox...fills will be available around the corner from your dive boat dock, at Ocean Divers. It would be advisable to take your tanks over to be filled right after each trip. There will be a group rate available for all fills. Directions will be provided to you upon arrival, (or before). The fill station is close.

Concerning docking the boat for Nitrox fills...no we can't...it is not possible due to time constraints...(and it is, quite frankly, easier and faster just to run them over).
It is about a 2 minute drive from our boat to Ocean Divers for the
Nitrox fills.

Just got through with emails with Natasha and I had so much fun with her and Walter in Bonaire that I couldn't miss out on Wreckmania.

My wife, Kim usually dives with me but she will be away in England on business for two weeks so my time to play :). Will be in the Cayman's the week before doing tech training :book: but figure I will loop through Miami on the way back to Boston and enjoy some wreck diving and making new friends.

Wreckmania II is getting closer! Final payments are due in March.
I've had a few emails about the dates..as to when to come in and when to leave.
Saturday May 31st you need to get down to Key Largo before 4PM.
Walter, Mike and Pete, will be going over Wreck Diving, and doing pool work that night.

Sunday after breakfast we plan to do a two tank morning dive. This will work toward Wreck certifications. Afternoon dives will also be available.
Monday same as Sunday with the afternoon dives being a buy one tank get the second tank free day.

Tuesday Morning last of the morning dives. We should get out of the water by 1PM latest ..to allow 24 hours for your flights on Wednesday.

Walter have you talked about the Wrecks we hope to dive while we're down there? I don't recall.. but this might be a good time to.. Thanks all!

Depending upon what time you head out I'd be interested in a Saturday afternoon dive also. I land at 9:30AM in Miami from the Caymans, figure by the time I get out of customs, get a car and head south probably arrive around 12:30PM? My guess is it is about 1 1/2 hours from Miami???

How have you been? Are you and Kim going to make the trip to Bonaire this year? Will miss you if you don't. An hour and half, maybe two hours should get you to Key Largo in time for a afternoon dive. I don't know if we'll be able to make it from Ft. Lauderdale in time, we'll try to. Maybe I could talk to my friend Key Largo Brent and work out a deal with those guys... Will just have see how it goes. Who knows what traffic will be like on the way to the Keys, especially the 17 mile stretch. See you then, Bob. :tree:

Looking forward to Wreckmania! Afraid we'll be skipping Bonaire this year. Kim is traveling alot on business and I have 6 weeks vacation to use up, which is why I'll be alone in Key Largo, although my 18 year old daughter and her girlfriend will be with me, as a graduation present. They don't dive but will add to the pool scenery :niceday:

We are saving up for an Australia trip at the end of the year and doing the GBR along with possibly some training courses in Boca Rotan during the summer.

Yes, I figure as much as I would like to dive in the afternoon may be hard to judge the "traffic" time. If it is anything like the traffic to Cape Cod on a May 31 weekend, can take a couple of hours just to get over the bridge :D .

If there is still room on the boat for the Saturday & Sunday dives I want to go ahead and reserve a spot. I am not sure if it will be my friend Kim Smoke or Brian Dague, but one of them will be coming with me. Also, if either of them need to rent equipment, (BC & Reg) what would the cost be for both days? If it isn't that much then they both might want to come with me. Good Afternoon Sandy!

We have room on the boat for your friends. The boat is HUGE. It is certified to take 45 divers. But, since we are chartering it, they have agreed to give it to just Wreckmaniacs if we have 27 including our 3 instructors.
We now have 17 including our instructors. So we can take 10 more MAX.
As far as the rooms, I blocked 12. We have now filled 11. But I talked to the resort today, and they said at this time they still have rooms, if we need more.

To rent a BC and a reg from the dive shop it is 10.00 each, per two tank trip.
They are both made by Sherwood.

Wreckmania I was a blast and I am sure that WWII will be tons of fun as well!

Sorry I have been MIA - So mcuh has been going on in my life as I am currently getting ready to move to Puerto Rico! The scuba gear will of course be coming along and I hope to have time to do lots of diving as I will have no more excuses about the water being too cold! I am also itching to get the digicam wet again.

Kevin - please tell Kim I said hello and that I ran a 4:55 in the marathon! All the running we did in Bonaire paid off. Hope you are all doing well.

Natasha - I plan to get the BF certified so that he too can come along on your trips. Maybe even Bonaire later this year if we can get the time off.

Just saw your message and a "M" should be good for Kim. Have you received the second check I sent (for Kim)? I haven't seen a "mail" post that you received it (nor has it cleared my account)....I mailed it before my cruise (March 7th I think). If you don't receive it this week, please PM me and I guess I will put a stop payment on it and resend.

I undersand you are going to Grand Cayman & diving with Casey @ Netptunes Divers? I dove with her & Kevin(?) when I was there. They are great people! You should have a lot of fun!

Let's give it 2 more weeks.

Now for the good news.. yes, Casey and Keith will be joining us for some shore divig in back of Sunset House. We have our dive package with Sunset, so we won't be using Casey's boat, but she is waiting to dive the Mermaid statue with us!
I can't wait! 15 more days.
