I was wondering what equipment (from BC and Reg to extra safety equipment) do you take down with you. For example:
Reg- Mares V16 Proton Metal
Oct.- Dacor Viper
BC- Sherwood Avid (2005 model)
Computer- Aeris Atmos II
Mask- Mares X-vision
Backup Mask- Mares X-vision
Fins- Aeris Velocity
Snorkle- Aeries Barracuda (I also do freediving and spearfishing)
Hotwave wetsuit (3,5, or 8 mm) and 5mm boots and gloves.
Knife- Aeris Accessory Knife, Tusa Imprex, and a pair of EMT shears
Light- 4C Aeries accessory light
Safety Gear- Whistle, safety sausage, Dive Alert, dye marker, and a signal mirror.

I am curious as to how I compare with other, more experienced divers. Do I carry too much or am I missing some important items, etc?

Reg- Zeagle Envoy
Oct.- Zeagle Octo +
BC- Zeagle Ranger
Computer- Aeris XR2
Mask- Ocean Mater Non-purge
Backup Mask- Need to get a new one
Fins- SP Jets
Snorkle- yes
3 mm wetsuit or 7mm wetsuit gloves, boots and hood or Drysuit with hood and wet gloves.
Knife- a pair of EMT shears
Safety Gear- On Ocean dives Whistle, safety sausage, dye marker, glow stick and a signal mirror.
LED 2 C-cell flaslight
Tank light for night dives.

Very dependent on the dive, but this is a typical setup:

Tanks: Doubles (AL80s)
Regs: Dive RIte 2500s
Wetsuit: 5mm Farmer top
BC: BP/W
Comp: Suunto Vyper
Mask: usually a US Divers Maui
Backup Mask: None
Fins: SP Jets
Snorkle: None
Knife: common DIR style knife
Lights: 2 Delrin backup lights
Other: Spool, sometimes a HID.

Cave config: Steel tanks (108s), add drysuit, add 400ft reel, add HID, add wetnotes, add tables, add backup mask, add arrows/cookies.

OW config: Add SMB, add whistle.

Am I being too paranoid carrying 3 cutting devices and a backup mask? Also, should I add a reel or finger reel to my kit?

I don't know your diving environment. I find many uses for my spool, but you may not have the same need. You need to optomize your gear for the environment in which *you* dive.

But 3 cutting devices might be a bit much... :)

What I carry depends on the dive plan but this is a good base:

tank
primary regulator (SP Mk16 1st stage with Atomic 2nd) with LP hose for wing
backup regulator (SP Mk16 1st stage with Atomic 2nd) with SPG
"Argon" bottle if using dry suit
backplate
wing
wet or dry suit
ballast
light saver or canister light
lift bag or SMB with spool pre-rigged and carried in DS/WS thigh pocket
Buck Intrepid knife
OMS shears
UWatec BT
mask
Jetfins or Turtle fins (depends on suit)

No cave diving or wreck diving yet. I will be doing mostly beach diving in temperate waters. Also, no decompression dives yet.

If I dove where there was a lot of fishing line or where there were nets, I might carry two or three cutting devices, particularly if I dove solo or with unreliable buddies. Entanglement is very bad news.

Any time I dive off a boat, I carry a spool and SMB. I think it's a safety thing, to be able to signal the boat where you are, and to be able to let people on the surface know you're coming up if you have to ascend where you hadn't planned to. I've had to use it, too.

I carry wetnotes, because every once in a while, there is something you need to communicate to a buddy that you just can't figure out how to do with hand signals.

Perrone's right, though, what you carry depends on what kind of dive you are doing.

Depends on the dive, but for recreational openwater, within NDL:

Reg. - Atomic M1
Oct. - Zeagle Flathead VI
BCD - Scubapro Knighthawk
Com.- UWATEC Aladin Tec2G (I use two)
Mask - Scubapro Solara
Backup Mask - Scubapro Solara
Fins - Mares Quattro Excel (yellow color) with spring straps
Snorkel - Oceanic Pocket Snorkel
Wetsuit - (3,5, and 7mm) - Henderson Hyperstretch Farmer
Drysuit - DUI TLS 350
Knives - Oceanic Spinner, Scubapro K-6 Stainless Steel, EMT shears
Lights - UK Light Cannon HID, Princeton Tec Torrent LED
Safety Gear - Whistle, SMB, tank banger, signal mirror, slate

For deep wreck dives

Reg- Oceanic FDX10/DX4
Oct.- Oceanic Alphia 8
BC- Oceanin Probe
Computer- Oceanic Atom 2.0
Backup computer- Oceanic Pro Plus 2
Mask- the one on my face
Fins- Oceanic V12 splites or Blades
Snorkle- Nope, don't need it
Dry suit- Pinnalce Evolution
Knife and a pair of EMT shears
Light- Princeton Tec Shockwave 2
Backup light- Princeton Tec Surge
200 foot line reel
100 lbs lift bag
Marker Strobe
slate
Safety Gear- Whistle, safety sausage, Dive Alert

And no I don't look like a Xmas tree, I have everything tucked into a pocket and streamlined. And I can and have used everything but the dive alert and safety sausage.
