Can anyone suggest either some good gear for kids or a store?

My 3.5 year old and 5.5 year old want to start snorkeling and I feel like they are ready to paddle around a little, as both are strong swimmers and their swim instructor is going to spend the next month before our trip working with them on it.

This is the first thing I've found. Any comments or suggestions?

Swim fins like kids use for swim would work well. Keifer carries a number of these as do swim shops. Check a used sporting goods store if you have one in the area and make sure the fins fit. Fin sizes for kids sometime run a little small depending on the manufacuturer. Don't spend a lot of money as they will quickly outgrow the fins.

At that young age you could almost get away with using good pool quality stuff. http://pooltoy.com/gogmasect.html

You can check the Leisure Pro's Kid's Corner here: http://www.leisurepro.com/Cat/Kids_Corner/2011.html

I bought my equipment from them and they are amazing. Great cheapeset price guarantee. Got my order shipped to my door in less than 24 hours.

Aside from that stuff, so glad to see you're getting the kids interested in the sport. I'm sure they'll love it. Have a great time!

I bought Deep See brand for my 9 year old. One set from my LDS in Florida, and another set from LP for pool work here in Chicago. Very good quality in my opinion.

I bought a set from US diver for 10 bucks. It was worthless. Looked pretty in the package, but the mask was stiff as a rock, the fins would cause skin trauma if used, and the only thing worth keeping was the snorkel.

Actually, it is the snorkel I am diving with now... I broke my expensive one, and the kiddy one worked fine. I liked the pink tip on it.

My 7 years old girl very happy with her rubber yellow swim fins that she use routinely 4 times a week during swim session + Aeris cuda ultradry snorkel with smaller mouth piece + tecnosub kid mask.
Rubber fin is not expensive but very comfortable - just purchase new one when outgrow. For snorkel and mask I prefer the good quality although not cheap- it will last longer - but more importantly - comfortable and safer.

I agree - rubber swim fins are very reasonably priced and place less strain on children's growing feet. Unlike other kinds of fins, there are National Standards for rubber fins in Russia and Malaysia. As previously mentioned, rubber fins can also double for swimming practice.

Here in Europe the Greek-made Majorca Sub Dolfin model is very popular with young children:

It's available in a huge range of sizes (European 22 to 47) and many colours (black, orange, blue, red, yellow, green).

If you're looking for an American-made fin, try Aqua Pro from Oceanways:

It comes in Junior size 1 upwards. Sprint Aquatics floating fins start smaller, at 8-11 Junior:

and they deliver fast.
