Sundays cleanup with thumbs

While great strides have been made in environmental cleanup and protection since the first Earth Day 37 years ago. We have all seen reports of rising annual temperatures, severe weather events, threats to our food and water supplies, rising sea levels, glacial melting, the endangerment of thousands of plant and animal species and the spread of deadly diseases

Lost and abandoned fishing gear can be dangerous to wildlife, boaters and divers. Derelict nets in particular can entrap fish, sharks and marine mammals, as well as divers.
After a comprehensive briefing by Gary of Gulf Divers (a sponsor of the Clean Up), the group geared up and headed to the dive site, an area of coastline known locally as the Alabama Point. The underwater clean up effort is an excellent way for citizens, particularly recreational divers, to get involved in protecting their sanctuary,

Its cool, infact, more of the same, just a bit of a beach walk instead of a giant stride.

Great job Tom. You guys were amazing! I like what someone said earlier which is that we can all do something everyday by picking up as we go. And please, for those who toss things like cans over board and justify it by saying that they will be future home for fish or crabs @#$! Stop it! Enough already, clean up your garbage!

I'm impressed and jealous. I wish I could've been there to help out. I can note that when Frank and I went down once and dove the old Pensacola Pier, I picked up a bunch of cans and other trash and packed my little goodie bag full.

Wow! Cool pix. Y'all hauled up some really nasty stuff! We have a cleanup at Lake Lanier north of Atlanta once a year. I dragged up a vintage Gulf truck tire back in '97 or so.
