Sundays are cool for being in town and around the square... Any chance of doing it on 5/13? I know that would leave out firedogut but either way, someone will get left out. With Otter's departure day being 5/14, I'm sure he'll be long gone before dinner unless he has some crazy late flight.

Sorry, not intending to make waves here. I'm down with whatever. I'll let ya'll figure out a place and time.

We might be up for this. I only say "might" because it is our trip away from kids and we don't get a chance to go out together too often!

Let us know when and where and we'll try to be there.

Any night the 10th through 17th is fine with me. If anyone can't make it one night, we could always meet up another night too.

5/13 or 5/14 are fine with me.

13th or 14th works for me...someone decide! But I'm not going to be looking to be "around the square" since there are so many better choices outside of that...

The better restaurants may not be around the square, but Sunday afternoon/evening is a great time to be there, because (unless it has changed in the last couple years) it is "local time." Families come out with their kids dressed up SO cute! Last few times I was there, there was a live band (traditional music), vendors, etc. It's a great time/place for people watching, if you like absorbing local culture.

That was my exact thought. Traveling with our 18-month old daughter, I/we have to pick and choose which nights to go out. Therefore, if we do something Monday, we'll probably stay in on Sunday. But either way, we'll hook-up with ya'll.

I'll also second cowboyneal that there are better places away from the square. Absorbing some culture then getting slap-happy with some fellow SB'ers, what could be better? Both are doable.

Since I purposed the day change, I'll let others choose the location. Anyway, I doubt any of you would be up for Mickey-D's. :D

On the date, so far we have:

So, dinner first somewhere good, and then whomever wants to continue to the square may do so...perfect resolution! I'm in for either date (or both; I'm not shy about eating)...

We will be home on the 14th, so the 13th works better....I have to check with the others before committing so don't decide using us as a factor.

Bring your whole group! Anyway, I guess we could boil it down to a few choices now:

Reprinted (hopefully with permission) from Christi's Restaurant List.

(expensive) La Cocay – A true culinary delight in a warm elegant setting. Calle 8 between Av. 10 & Av. 15. Napa Salad, Pork Tenderloin, Pepper Crusted Sashimi Tuna, and Filet Mignon, Calamari rings sautéed in basil and garlic, Duck spring rolls with tropical corn, tomato, and mango salsa, Garlic Shrimp Tapas, Tequila Sautéed Shrimp with Roasted Nopal and chile de arbol, Plantain Crusted Fish with Honey Glaze and Cilantro Rice and lightly steamed veggies. Hungry yet???

Especias – (my personal favorite) Calle 3 between Av. 5 & Av. 10. Open Monday through Saturday for dinner only. Adrian is one of the best hosts on the island. This is a fusion of Mexican/Argentenian and exotic flavors. My favorites are the cilantro fish or chicken, or Shrimp Zambal.

La Mission ON 30th!! – NOT to be mistaken with La Mission downtown or Casa Mission – located on Av. 30 between Calle 2 and Calle 4, just north of the Super San Francisco grocery store. Open seven days a week for breakfast, lunch and dinner. True local and traditional Mexican food at a budget everyone can afford! My favorite is the Mexican combo plate!

El Moro – back in the hood…just tell the taxi driver the name of the restaurant Open for lunch and dinner, closed on Thursdays. Traditional and local Mexican food with a great seafood selection. Consommé de Moro, shrimp on a wire, and Mole Enchiladas are my favorites. Try the fried bananas as a desert or appetizer.

Especias is not open on Sundays (the 13th)...I would opt for El Moro...

I was going to sit back at let ya'll decide but it doesn't look like we're getting the kind of feedback we were looking for. Since Especias will be closed on Sunday, I'll vote for La Mission. I'd do El Moro also. I'm not interested in having an expensive meal.... not my thing at home either so that rules out La Cocay... for me anyway.

As far as not getting very good response from other people interested, perhaps we should create a new post and title it "Free Food in Cozumel on Mother's Day (5/13)!" then in the body say just joking and explain the situation. Or we can PM people. Or it could just be us. Rich, Otter and H2ODoc all expressed interest but haven't helped with the logistics.... Any input guys?

I'm all for meeting up more than once. If we don't figure it out before I get there, I will still get email while there; just let me know where/when to meet!

Sorry, forgot you were in on the original subject of having dinner in the May SB'ers thread before this one got started.

I like El Moro and La Mission, but would like to try something new.....still haven't made contact with the others.

Do you wan't to suggest something else?

It looks like the majority here is for the 13th... agree?

We should probably decide something before Rich departs on the 8th. Unlike Lisa and perhaps some of you others, I make it a priority to avoid all computers and other electronic devices while on vacation. What I'm trying to say it that we can't assume everyone will have/want access to the net so we should decided before the 8th.

I have been hanging back because neither the 13th or the 14th works well for me. I have family joining me down there and the 13th is their first evening on the island, so I can't very well desert them and they don't dive. The 14th we are fishing and I'm not sure what time I'll be ready to go to dinner.

I'll keep checking, and if you get a plan together before I leave (Saturday), maybe I'll be able to drop by wherever you guys are and say hi, or maybe I'll drag my family along, but I can't be sure what I will be doing. Please don't base any plan on me, but I'll try to connect with you guys. I'll also be checking the SB from time to time while I'm down there, but it won't be nearly as often as I do when it's so easy; I won't have a laptop with me, so it will be from the Calling Station or somewhere like it.

Other than that, look for the old fart festooned with green survey tape and wearing a beat up canvas hat that used to be white; that will probably be me. ;^)

I'm here... busy week. I leave Thursday morning. Look, we could always meet somewhere for drinks, and then decide where to go for dinner from there, if anywhere. So, if you don't want to decide youdon't really have to. It doesn't have to be a big to-do. Just a place to meet up and hang out for a bit :-)

Sorry! I haven't watched this thread.

All I can say is that we are a definite "maybe". We have friends that will be in Coz the same time and I don't know what they've planned yet.

Can I play it by ear? Do most places require reservations? If so, it's safer to count us out. If not, then we'll try to make it if we can.

Can I play it by ear?
Definitely

Do most places require reservations?
No

we could always meet somewhere for drinks
That's great but where? That's the problem, no one has decided where to eat. How we gonna decide where to meet for drinks? Personally, we're going to have a toddler with us so I'd rather just setup camp some place and not go from one place to another possibly taking another cab to get there.

It doesn't have to be a big to-do.
I couldn't agree more, If we can just decide on a place and time and if you can make it, great if not, no big deal.

Sorry if I'm making a big to do out this.... Besides taking my dog to a boarding facility on Friday it's the last thing I have to mark of my list of TODO's for the trip.

So here is what we have...
Neal - El Moro
Josh - El Moro, La Mission
Lisa- La Cocay, Especias
Otter- La Cocay, Especias
Rich- Doesn't matter
H2O Doc- Doesn't matter
ggunn- Doesn't matter

It looks like we're split. Since Especias is closed on Sundays Lisa and Otter's vote defaults to La Cocay. I'm the only one down with La Mission so that's out but Neal and I like El Moro. With that, I'm going to suggest El Moro. Since the rest of you will be able to hook up other nights, perhaps ya'll want to do La Cocay?

So, El Moro on 5/13 at 6:00 PM. Does that sound good?

Geez, let's just go wherever. I'll be there every night from the 11th-19th. I'll check SB when I am on line. If anyone wants to meet up, let me know. I will be in Casa Mex. I eat every night, so, I'll go wherever!

Okay guys... I'm leaving in 25 hours and 20 minutes and leaving all technology behind.... including internet access. If nobody is down with my suggestion in my last post, that's cool... My wife, daughter and I will go it alone. Otherwise, suggest something else and we'll try to hook up with you guys.

Ya'll have a safe and fun trip.

OK, so is it tonight or the 14th? Anyone decide when/where? And for the record, I didn't "vote" LOL! I said I had not been to Especias and the other place. I am fine with trying somewhere new, but goodness, we are having trouble arranging it! Hell, we could just meet at Palmera's for a margarita, and I'd be satisfied. It doesn't have to be some super special dinner party.

May 14th, 2007, 03:13 PM
OK, since there is no consensus, I guess the plans are scrapped. Hope to meet some of you some other time. Hope everyone is having a great time!:-)

So far, I've eaten in La Choza on Friday, Especias on Saturday, Prima on Sunday and El Moro tonight...lunches at Rock N' Java in between dive trips or beaching or BS sessions with Apple and breakfast every morning at Casa Mex (since it's included)...I still have La Cocay, that new-ish gourmet place by Christi's shop, maybe Sonora Grill and maybe a rebound to one of the above left to go, or something else, who knows? I eat every night at 6 (too early for most?)...I'm pretty regimented about my food intake - no late dinners - So far, have been out to the usual suspects on the dive trail...good stuff...nothing extraordinary...someone claimed to have seen 2 "Black Tip" sharks on a dive today...I didn't see them though..
