Have any of you dived the Yongala off North Queensland?

Its in only 18-30 metres but cos its in the middle of nowhere its absolutely chock-full of marine life and absolutely brimming with healthy soft corals.

Never fails to please with turtles, sharks, manta rays, sea snakes, giant morays, huuuuuge cod, barracuda, and schools of fish I don't even recognise!!

Oh and the wreck is in pretty good condition - only shame is that it cannot be penetrated because it is a World Heritage Protected site.

Regardless, it is still the best dive I have ever done!

If any of you plan on going to the Great Barrier Reef or Coral Sea anytime, it is definitely worth the trip to Townsville to do the Yongala!

I sure miss old Castle Hill. Sigh.......................

I'm impressed!

I'm back in Sydney for 3 months, and I already miss the Hill too - we used to walk our dog up there every evening in an attempt to get fit... it worked!

My uncle moved there in about 1973. Sadly he passed away a few years ago, but I have an aunt and cousin still there. I havent been to Townsville since about '89. I have heard its grown a little. I've also heard that Cairns is a big place now, as well as Port Douglas. Last time I was at Port Douglas, it was nothing more than a stop sign in the road..........

Ahhh fond memories of smelling the sugar cane!

Mark

PS Is the road up the Hill still as bad as it was back then?
