Archaeologists dive in on Gold Rush shipwreck, and say it’s vulnerable to looting. The Chilkat Valley News reports on the wreck of the steamship Clara Nevada, which sits in about 40 feet of water near Haines. They’re trying to get it listed as a historic site. The story says, “The 154-foot ship was a hybrid. Converted to steam, it retained its three sailing masts. It was heading south from the goldfields with a manifest that included successful miners when it ran up on Eldred Rock, touching off an explosion and fire triggered by as much as 100 tons of dynamite in its cargo hold. All 65 passengers and 39 crew were reported lost.”

Anyone have pics of this site? Id love to dive it. In Hawaii there is the "falls of Clyde" that sounds very much like a sister ship?

I don't know anything about it, but that sounds like it would be a cool site to dive. Has there actually been looting, or are they just worried that there could be?
