I'll be in the San Jose area for a week or two coming up, and would like to do some diving on the weekend. I could drive down to Monterrey if that's where the good diving is. Where would you recommend? Do you normally just do shore dives or are there good boat dives too?

Thanks!
Neil

Yep, it is down to Monterey.

There are several dive boats in Monterey; most only do weekends, with the
occasional weekday. Check them out at http://californiadiveboats.com/

I prefer boat to shore (less time in that cold water since no surface swim),
but either is good.

These questions get asked often, so just look down a few threads, or search.

You can also have a divemaster give you a tour in the Monterey/Carmel water if you're unsure of where to dive in. And I think you came at the right time since the Kelp are rebuilding their forest and the leopard shark's population is recovery. Saw one swimming by me at Half Dome on Saturday.
