My daughter and I went diving the other day and her SPG(reading) sometime during the dive started going up and down as she took breaths. I assume it has lost a seal. Any input would be appreciated.

Possibly a cylinder valve issue---make sure its open fully.

What reg (first stage and second stage)? No worries. I think this has to do with the first stage being used. Is this something new with the same equipment? Is this new (to you) equipment?

Part of my predive check is to always take 2-3 deep fast breaths while looking at my spg - if it moves the valve isn't open all the way... also helps prevent jumping in with a valve turned off.

This happened to me several weeks ago. I dropped to 70 ft with no issues and started poking around a reef. After about two minutes, I had one slightly labored breath. I paused half a moment to be sure my buddy was where I expected him to be before trying to draw the next one. I checked my gauge since it felt like breathing a nearly empty tank and was shocked to see it drop from 3100 to 1000 and slowly rebound back to 3100 with every breath. I was sure my tank was 'on' but I rolled the value from one stop to the other ensuring it was in fact fully 'on'. Crazy. We ascended to the top of the wall and actually poked around for a couple minutes (note: unwise) before heading to the surface. I couldn't recreate the issue topside. Anyway, I put that first stg out of service for the rest of the trip and had it serviced a week or so later. The sintered filter was clogged with corrosion and 'other matter'. The HP side seemed gunked up too. The SPG from that rig was trashed two days later as well. Reg tech guesses seawater infiltration. Not sure how it happened - I am pretty careful with my gear and do get it serviced. Get your gear serviced too.
