Hi guys

I am looking at buying some gear and have come across brand Sherwood I don’t know them but the sales person makes a lot of claims of how good this brand is and how big they are.

I was wondering if anybody is familiar with this brand and if so if you could maybe give me some of your views or feedback on how you found their product.

I bought a Sherwood Magnum (regulator) when I was first certified 12 years ago and still use it today.

Good luck!

One of the older brands around...they make rock solid gear that is easy to service. I dove their regs and BCs for several years.

Cheers.

Welcome to the 'board!
Personally love their Maxim reg and octo & Wisdom computor...dving 60+ dives and 18 months so far so good... easy to get annual check up .... but do yourself a favor and drop down to here for more info. regarding equipment questions. Alot of good info here on this board...use it and learn!

I'm a newbie. Grand total of 6 dives. My wife and I have Maximus regs and Wisdom computers. Had a slight problem when I noticed that the 2 computers were reading differently from one another (I live about 2,000 ft. above Sea Level - one was reading that and one was reading about 3,000 ft). This was a week before I was to begin my pool dives for the OW cert. Needless to say, this was a problem that needed immediate correction. According to Sherwood's website, I was to take the problem computer to the nearest authorized Sherwood dealer - which I did. They called in the problem to Sherwood, let them know I was in a time crunch and sent it out. I had it back and repaired 4 days later.

Now, I will say I have a slight problem with their PC software for the Wisdom - but that's not critical.

When it comes to their dive gear and the way they jumped on my computer's problem and handled that in short order... gotta give 'em kudos!

(Just be sure that if you buy their regs that you ALWAYS mention to other divers you're with that the first stage bubbles. It's Supposed To! Keeps water and crud out! But, it looks like an O-ring problem and can ruin a dive!)

The fact that the first stage bubbles does that have a major effect on your air consumption or not really noticeable.

Thanks for your feedback much appreciated.

Again, I'm too inexperienced to really say, but from what I've read in here, it equals about 5 breaths per tank. Not really significant.

Sherwood is a huge company, much bigger than Scubapro (JWA) and USD combined. They have been in the life support business for more than 75 years. Don’t believe me? If you have a gas grill look at the valve on the tank, it will say Sherwood on the handle regardless of the brand of grill. If you have a relative on oxygen the valve and regulator is a Sherwood. If you have a Fire Dept. their life support equipment is Harsco/Sherwood; Harsco is the parent company to Sherwood. Sherwood is the worldwide leader of valves and regulators and makes many other brands OEM’s; they are part of Harsco’s gas technologies division. The company pulls in over 2 billion dollars a year with an annual growth of 280 million dollars.

Their BC’s are made buy outside vendors like most scuba companies. If you look at Scubapro's masks you will fine the same masks in the Sherwood line and so on. This is not new, some scuba vendors are OEM suppliers for others, and some vendors are just OEM suppliers, but as far as regulators go; they tool their own brass make all their own valves and tanks, and are OEM vendors themselves.

This post is just to put in perspective how big Sherwood really is…I believe a lot of people think their just another scuba company.

Here are a few links to make you believe that Sherwood is bigger;

Sherwood makes a really nice regulator. We use their less expensive brut regulator in our rental department because it's "bullet proof" and really simple to service.

Also look at Sherwood's sister company Genesis. Genesis makes a high quality product at a far to inexpensive price.
