Hey gang, I know that it is best to dive Destin Jetties at High Slack tide. My question is, why?

In light of the upcoming schedule on the tide charts, it looks like the low tides are better (timing-wise). Anyone care to educate me on the pro's and con's of diving at LOW tide??

Low tide has the maximum amount of the ugly bay water, so the vis is usually lower. I tend to go anytime within a few hours prior to high tides. I like to finish the second tank around high tide. The current can be strong at times, but the vis is good and at least you're not being swept out to sea....

I tried diving once there with the tide going out. It got really hairy and ended up with me crawling out onto the rocks. Never again!

Been there, done that! Current rocks through Destin Pass, much stronger than some of the other passes in the area.

If you don't mind reduced visibility, low slack tides will give you little currents as well. Tide does pull out though, if you screw up, more potential for a long swim.
