I was considering an air-intergrated computer and have seen the AERIS AI both hose and hoseless computer and was pretty impressed with what I saw.
You divers that own one, how do you like it? I was considering the hoseless model.
THANKS,

The Aeris ATMOS AI only comes with a hose and is a very good dive computer. My family owns three of them.
You are probably thinking either the Aeris Epic or the Aeris ATMOS Elite T3. Both of these are hoseless.
The Aeris Elite T3 got an excellent review in the June 2007 issue of Scuba Diving Magazine.

I use the epic and my girlfriend uses the elite. We are very happy with them.

I am looking to buy a Atmos AI with the compass and the quick disconnect. Has anyone had any problems with the disconnect. I have handled one in the store and the quick disconnect seems to come apart very easily and I was wondering if it is under pressure is there any possibility that it may come apart in the water. I would think that when under pressure that it would prevent the disconnect from working and thus preventing it from coming apart. Please let me know
Thanks Drew

I own two Aeris Atmos AIs and one has about 50 dives, the other over 100. I love the form factor, and having the compass at the perfect angle is a big help. Overall my wife and I love the computers, and I like the computer being air integrated without worrying about transmitters and wireless problems. A couple of things to note:
The algorithm is very liberal, a plus for me, but some may want more conservative
The quick disconnect may feel loose but once pressurized, you are not taking it apart. I have had to change an o-ring on one of the quick disconnects after it started hissing, but this was a five minute job.
Batteries are cheap, readily available, and user replaceable needing only a screw driver to open the battery compartment, great when you turn it on after you head out, and need to make a field change.
I really like being able to set the PO2 alarm from 1.3 to 1.6, depending on the dive plan and needs. If you are diving a mix that might go to 1.42 right at the sand, then being able to set the alarm at 1.5 keeps it from annoying you during the dive.
The ascent indicator is easy to follow and control your ascent, even at night.

I appreciate the info.
I am looking to get one for my girlfriend that was recently certified and I was going to give it to her for christmas. She is a small girl and it seems to be a very managable size. When you bought yours did it come with a case or bag for transport?

The computer does not come with any kind of case or bag for transport. I went to Target and looked around until I found something that fit: A blue, soft-sided sandwich container with a zipper closure.

I love my Aeris AI, especially the fact that it fits so perfectly in my hand. I can navigate with my compass and see my computer at the same time. I also have the QD feature, and once it's pressurized, there's no way it's coming off so no worries there.

You are right, it doesn't come with the hard case like most of the other Aeris computers. I think I will run a sale or something to include a case with all Ai purchases.

I use a Scuba Max GatorPac padded mask case along with foam that I carved to fit the shape of the dive computer with the compass attached. There is also enough room to put the owner's manual in with the dive computer (in a zip lock baggie).
I also keep the ATMOS AI in a zip lock baggies within the case so no foam residue or any else gets onto the USB connector contacts.
With the case being padded in addition to the foam I added it save the dive computer if (when :blinking: ) it is dropped on the ground.
This setup works extremely well for the three ATMOS AI dive computers that my family owns.
The case has a small side pocket where I keep the spare battery for the ATMOS AI.
The case only costs $9.99
You can see the case I am using at the following URL.

I just don't see the attraction to AI computers, especially ones on the end of the HP hose. It is much easier to read depth/time info on your wrist. In particular, when ascending with your inflator held in your left hand, being able to monitor depth and ascent rate simply by looking at your right wrist is a real convenience. Since a typical diver only needs to check gas pressure periodically during the dive, but depth/time much more frequently, it makes perfect sense to have the computer on your wrist and SPG clipped on a left D ring.
Everyone's got an opinion, I guess.

I bought an Epic and have taken about 12 dives with it. I love it. AI is definitely a major plus. I like the convenience of having everything I need right on my wrist. I have a compass on a retractor. Overall, this is the best setup I've used. Very convenient and easily accessible information. I like the air integrated functions like 'air time remaining' etc. (not always accurate, but a nice estimate).

I dive with an Aeris Atmos AI and I love it. What a great computer!
My buddy dives with one too, and he loves his as well.
Two of my good friends each have them also - they are very pleased with them too.
Just note, that if you set it for Nitrox, there is a default function that resets the mix whenever the pressure reads Zero (changing tanks, turning off valve for whatever reason). If you don't reset the %, for safety, it sets all functions for the worst-case scenario all around, reading your mix as 50% Oxygen and 79% Nitrogen.
If you're diving air, it doesn't matter, it just stays set for air, of course.
When diving Nitrox, just remember to set the mix on every dive.
(I think there is some way to set a different default mix, I just haven't taken the time to try it yet.)
....but I really do like this computer. **Plus, it is very easy to change the battery.

There is an option on one of the settings screen to prevent it from defaulting 50% O2.
The other thing to keep in mind is that if you switch from Nitrox on one day to air on the next day but within 24 hours or less the AI will not let you switch to air. You will have to set it for Nitrox 21 (same as air since it is 21% O2).
The only explanation I ever received (not from Aeris) for this decision is that is was set this way for liability issues. It is not recommended by most training agencies to go from Nitrox on one dive to air on the next dive repetitive dive. It is normally recommended that you stay with the same Nitrox mix or switch to a richer mix (higher O2 content).
