I am getting ready to build a "save a dive kit". What are the things that I really need to have and what are some items that a nice to have but you don't really need em?

I'm still a (re)new(ed) diver, so I'm still trying to figure this out, too.

I'm thinking small-ish relatively inexpensive replacements for things that can break or be lost, but can be "fixed" in the field.

Straps for mask, fins. O-rings, backup mask.

I've heard others suggest backup reg and computer, but that seems more than "just a save a dive kit" :)

For mine:
- Spare straps for mask and fins
- O-rings
- Leatherman tool
- Waterproof bandaids
- Spare contact lenses
- Hair bands (for girlfriend)
- Chapstick
- Sunscreen
- Alcohol wipes
- Tweezers
- Zip ties
- Duct Tape
- Spare mouthpiece
- DAN Cards
- Baby Shampoo (mask de-fog)
- $20 (in case I forget to bring money for tipping the DM)
- Double-D snap bolt

All packs neatly into a clear mask box.

I'm also a new diver, so my save a dive kit is still a work in progress. So far I have:

Spare o-rings for tank and high and low pressure hoses.
Sunscreen
Mask Defog
Multi-tool
Silicone Grease for o-rings
Extra o-ring for dive light
Extra Batteries for light
Extra clip for guage hoses
Light Sticks
And Building......

lol! i like the $20 suggestion. save a dive "master" kit.

the things that come to mind are......

spare o rings
spanners, tools, scissors & knife
cable ties
spare mouth pieces (i had a dive where one literally tore off during the dive)
spare mask straps
spare lanyards, clippy things and doovalackys to stop the danglies that drive me nuts on newbies or students

then we have a seperate first aid kit, seperate o2 kit and seperate wife kit with hair stuff and moisturiser ect :D

cheers

I really like the idea of using a mask hardcase for the kit. I had wondered how to keep it all together.

we have a tool thingy from a hardware store... its not too big and it carries everything, inc the 1200 tools that hubby puts in there (but i might be exagerating a bit there )

and it has 2 sections - one for tools and hardware the other for the diving replacement bits
