DANCING CRABS, DERELICT FISHING GEAR, FUR SEALS, AND FREEDIVING
"SEA-Inside: Pacific Northwest" is a bi-monthly TV series that features largely underwater video.
The mid-summer episode of "SEA-Inside: Pacific Northwest" continues its tradition of showing our oceans in many lights. Episode 10 opens with a one minute video titled "Puget Sound Matters" contributed by Seattle PBS station KCTS. Then the next 13 minutes are also spent in Puget Sound exploring the tons and tons of fishing gear abandoned on the ocean floor that doesn't decompose, but keeps catching and killing marine life. That video by the Northwest Straits Commission shows us what's being done to get rid of those deadly nets.
The focus of this series is on the Pacific Northwest, but some videos from all over the globe are included, since similar issues are present in every ocean. This time, viewers will be transported to the waters off the south western coast of Africa for a swim with playful fur seals pups who face the 2007 hunting season. This video by Dutch filmmaker Edward Snyders illustrates how a somber topic can be treated with beauty and grace. Lastly, exquisite blues harmonica music and catchy lyrics accompany Al Vogel as he freedives below the surface to film the dancing antics of Blue Crabs in the Chesapeake Bay.
"SEA-Inside: Pacific Northwest" is a non-profit project co-sponsored by Still Hope Productions, Inc. and Northwest Film Forum of Seattle.
This series is airing on 16 community and government access stations from Oceanside, California to Sechelt, British Columbia, including the Portland and Seattle metropolitan areas, reaching over 1.5 million homes.
**NEWS FLASH! 8 new stations have just been added to the above listed line-up and will begin airing this series soon, from Washington DC to Tampa, FL -- from Chapel Hill NC to Fargo SD. Some of them stream their feeds on the internet.
