The Atom was discontinued and replaced by the Atom 2.0. very late last year. While there are some upgrades in the Atom 2.0, the original Atom is a great unit if all of the latest firmware upgrades are installed. As a reference, at this point in time, anything more than about $450-$500 for an original Atom would be out of line.

Added Note..My Opinion Only. If you find a dive store with the original Atom in stock, you have probably found a store that has a very difficult time moving inventory. This may or may not be a problem for the buyer. I bet if you look around, you will find many other things in that same store that are no longer the latest version. Simply a problem with our industry and a key problem with the survival of the small local scuba store. In retail, you gotta have the latest of the latest to safisfy customers.

thank you for the reminder on the firmware... I did see the recall. I will buy an atom 1.0 from you if you have one for $450. please let me know if you have one.

I will say that I shoped pretty much exclusively with liesurpro. For one they are close to me so I get the service and two they have good prices. They have the atom 1.0 for $575 but I think its because of the fact that they are a big operation and pehaps they order in bulk and were unable to unload the 1.0 before the 2.0 came out. can you tell me who has the 1.0 at the $450 cost if not you. I would like to get one at that price. I think that is a fair price for it. thanks for your help.

I think you missed my point. I cannot imagine why ANYONE still has an Atom 1.0 in stock; unless they are completely unable to move inventory. They have been discontinued for well over 8 months. I was simply saying if your local dealer DOES have one, I couldn't image it selling from much more than I quoted. I have been out of the Atom 1.0 for months and months. Thanks.

I did not miss your point... I am disagreeing with it when you speak of liesurepro.com they are the big gorilla of scuba stores.

now I honestly think that you missed my point... the reason why a store like liesurepro still has it is because they buy evryting in such massive amounts and they have a greater selection that it takes them a while to sell anything off. I have been to the store and they are always busy. They are th BIG GORRILA of scuba stores IMO.:eyebrow:

to set the record straight the price for an atom 1.0 is $575 and is the least expensive I have seen to date. All other stores quoting you less means they are probably out of stock. No pun intended Phil...;)

I challenge anyone to find it at a less expensive price and I will buy it. :eyebrow:

You asked a question. "Some" dive stores still have this computer because they still have them. They are not on the Oceanic website because they are discontinued, just as I think you had already guessed. You then asked why anyone still has this computer. If other have this computer, it is because they have them. If we are talking about an authorized dealer that gets product delivery from the factory on a weekly or monthly basis, I can't image why they would still have one, unless they have some difficulty moving inventory.

Coralcrazed, when I talk about dealers, I am typically not thinking about Leisure Pro. For most items, they are not authorized dealers. And you are correct, they are the big gorrila of scuba retailers. They are not unknown to me and I know and understand their business model IN EXTREMELY PAINFUL DETAIL. If you will search my posts on this board, you will see that I OFTEN come to their defense when they are bashed. That being said, when I speak about authorized dealers, I don't think about them....nor do any of the other large internet authorized dealers. If you think that $575 is a fair price for the Atom 1.0 computer, given that you have searched far and wide and could not find it cheaper, I think you should buy it quickly before THEY run out. I did voice the opinion that I thought those units were probably worth $450-$475. That is the price we had on our final units of the Atom 1.0. Geez. This is simple. It is a good computer. If you want one and $575 is the lowest price you find....buy it from Leisure Pro. Their service is great.
