Hi Mapman:
Sure I'm always interested! So far I only have Roatan in April 04 on the books.
I'm open the rest of the year to what everyone wants.

:sunny:

PS. I can post prices after "Our World Underwater" here in April of this year, for a group trip.
What month does everyone want to go?

If you plan to do a live-aboard and are happy to share with someone else then you will not have to pay a single supplement. And a couple of days shore based need not be expensive if you avoid someone like the Palau Pacific.

Natasha,
Guess you know that if you have a group trip to Palau, that I will have to go. You can't get this one by me! :tree: Bob

Hi Natasha, thanks for checking into a group trip. We are thinking end of September - 1st two weeks October 2004. We are pretty booked this year, plus I`ll need to sell a lot of maps to do this one and a year will definately help timewise. Liveaboard might be best bang for buck. What do you think liveaboard/ resort? Sounds as if we might have some real intrest out there.
I have looked at Big Blue and so far I`m impressed with what I`ve seen and read. Friends have suggested Aggressor. Haven`t seen much aboutthem, but will keep looking

Thanks for the advice Jim, and it seems everyone liked the idea but not the dates!
Does anyone want to go there in April? Is it a good time to go?

Based upon what I have read, Feb / March are better times. I can probably round up 4-6 ppl for Palau for that period of time....does that work for you Azul?

We were thinking liveaboard -- either the Aggressor or Big Blue

I am heading to australia end of june 2003 and will be heading to palau as well for like a week or so. I;ve never dived before but am looking forward to learning and also the awesome stuff i;ve heard about the reefs near palau. The rates are pretty high for one person for me as well...would be open to sharing costs with anyone going as well

The Peter Hughes boat had the best reviews out of all of them but I think it moved to PNG. Aggressor was second so I guess is first now.
Someone mentioned BBE?? I'm yet to see a favorable review. A friend from SC went there and was offered a last minute deal on BBE and said it was the worst liveaboard he's been on, even at half price.

OK,,,,, there's always a first. Do you subscribe to Undercurrent?? It's been money well spent for me. There would be nothing worse than sinking $5k into a trip and then hating the boat you were on.

but didn't renew this year. I found that I could get as much info on here, rec.scuba, Rodale's AND could interact with the actual people who went.

I agree, dropping $5K and 23 hrs flying to have lousy time would be a bummer. Seems like the Aggressor is much more of a known quantity....

Damir's (Mars2U) web page has an interesting story on Palau at http://www.damirs.com/Palau.html. I am not sure which way he would vote on the BBE.

Much agreed about the content of this board! Reading Damir's report leads me to believe he liked the crew of BBE but then I have to ask myself if the BBE trying go out in that weather was a good idea in the first place. By the time they returned to port, all the other boats were already back. But I guess someone always has to be the last one back in.

and he did in fact highly recommend the boat and the crew. You bring up a good point about whether they should / should not have gone out....I dunno the specifics, so its hard for me to say.

What was your friend's complaint about the BBE?

None of the other passengers spoke English (they didn't tell him prior) so he was basically still "alone" and they were mostly new divers with poor skills so therefore he didn't have an opportunity to dive some of the more challenging (and better) dives. The crew realized they weren't capable and restricted the diving. He had orginally planned to do land based diving and got this offered as a last minute deal. He ended up staying longer and spending more money in the long run to do the dives he wanted.

Well I certainly could understand why he had a bad time, just not sure I would have held BBE responsible. Having not gone on a live-aboard, one of my fears has always been stuck on a boat without anyone speaking English and where the divers were of significantly worse diving levels. Our solution at this point is to get a big group of us together and hece looking at the BBE, PHD, or Aggressor.

Thanks

Otter
