New camera troubles

Just got a reefmaster mini, the manual states that at max res and quality I should get aprox 320 pics from a 1 gig sd chip...Heres the problem, installed the 1 gig chip (sandisk- recommended) and the counter says 320 pics, formatted the chip and now it reads 1300 pics...Two seperate chips did this.
Is this normal?

You've checked to see that maybe the resolution wasn't somehow reset? If not, consider it a blessing.

Yes....it sounds like resolution. Maybe the camera reset to factory defaults. They aren't normally set to the highest resolution.

Thanks all for the help. Took it back to LDS and tried the recommended Sandisk SD in a different camera...Formated the chip and voila 320 pics...put back in mine, format and 1200+ pics...

Went home with new camera, just in time for 3 days in Key Largo this weekend....
