A silly question.....but then I am not sure of the answer. Does a camera 'see' UW like our eyes? That is, nearer and larger? It is subjected to the same laws of light refraction as our eyes. If then my camera manual says 'minimum focusing distance is 12"' (air), is this 9" (or is it 8", can never remember which) underwater? Or is it the real physical 12" still?

I believe it is the air-glass-water interface that causes the diffraction and therefore change in size of the image. Don't see why this would not also be true for a camera lens in a housing.
Regarding how close you can focus.. Same rule should apply due to refraction, it should still look like 12 inches
Would love to hear it from an authoritative source.
