blue stuff - what is it ?

saw a lot of these in warm waters below 8M. these are close to a wreck. some actually grow on the wreck, some on ropes, amongst mushrooms and this on a porite.
 
Those definitely are tunicates, and if they're primarily blue/bluish- purple it's very likely that they are Blue Bell tunicates.

Delicate, lovely things, aren't they?

they're on the transparent side of translucent. like delicate china. with a nice silvery ring not unlike the gilt edge of a fine china tea-cup.

next time out i'll try to persuade the DM to leave me with my buddy in that 500 sq ft spot and look around some more.

i think i know where the decent-sized raincheck i got for christmas is going - photo gearzzz :devious:
