We dive the lake Saturday. It is in the process of turning over. Vis is down. On the plane and depths above 20' maybe 4-6', 2-3' ;20'-110'; and 15' belown 110'. We did one dive 116' for dive time of 1:05. Althought the vis was poor until you broke through at the bottom, we did see several cats. Also, perch and blue gill at depth (60'+) which probably means more O2 in the water column from the turnover. Altough vis was low, still we had enough stuff to keep it interesting.
Sunday afternoon we dove the river. Vis was great 15'+ and lots of fish life: large bass, bluegill, carp etc. Nice time for a river dive as the snakes are gone for the winter. We did the drift from the 5th street bridge to the old marina. Max depth was 22' and dive time was 1:41. We began our dive on the shipwreck at the 5th street bridge- lots of big bass, then swam across towards the S.C. side and dove on the old Hamburg Cotton docks. We swam underneath the US 1 bridge then continued along the cotton docks. We then swam back over to the GA side of the river and enjoyed the UW trees ad large boulders, again with lots of fish. Passing the remains of the old Hamburg bridge, we swam back across to the old Hamburg docks (these are the remains of the old cotton docks about 1/3 of the way off the SC side of the river. The top portion of the docks were removed, but the support posts and rock base remains- lots of fish here). After exploring a few sandbars we stuck to the GA side until our exit. The current was mild (like a slow stroll). We will probably dive the river next Sat. morning given the current lake condiitions. River temp was 61 degrees.
