View Full Version : Checking out my summer dive sites....

Well folks I just came in from a couple hrs sledding. I went around the lake where we do alot of diving. I mentally marked where most of the ice huts are situated. Think I will go out again with one of my maps and mark on it all the ice hut villages. Might be some good finds in the spring/summer.....Might be a good idea for others to do during the winter......
What do you others do to plan your summer diving ?...Go be the seat of your pants, plan a bunch of dives/dive sites, work with local dive club to set them up ?....
Lets share some ideas.
I expect to complete my DM training this year so that will take up some of my dive schedule..... ;)

My buddy are purchasing the rec. pass and very much looking forward to getting to a bunch of wrecks I probably would never get to.......I too will be completing DM......

We put deposits down on charters like: Kingston, Brockville, Tobermory etc. All the local stuff from Ohio to lower Lake Huron and Lake Erie we just go by the seat of our pants because it is just right here or real close:)

I hope you plan on marking all the spots Steve puts his hut so you can find all of your missing stuff next summer. Let me know when you go so I can find the things my David hauls out there also.

Anchors just tie me down. I'm still trying to figure out what a vase was doing where we found it.
As for getting wet more often this year, that is my plan. I've changed jobs and should have a lot more free time in the upcoming season.
I'm still looking at the Black Donald site. I'll be calling you in he near future or maybe we can meet at the store when you're in town and make some plans.

..that you mention that...I know that a walkman was dropped down one hole just a week ago. It's the hut along the sand bar Butch...make sure you mark that one for sure!!!

Where do you guys get air? Do you have to go to Belleville or Peterboro? Did Madoc have an air station at one time? I want to try diving in Marmora this year.

I get mine in Peterborough. Both shops sell nitrox, and as my tanks are nitrox ready, I prefer to get it there. I know the air is very "clean"..This is not to say the shop in Belleville isn't, but he doesn't sell nitrox (at least not last summer). All three shops are pretty good to deal with. We all have our prferences as does everyone. Mine choice is really one of convenience, and as it happens, I get along well with the owner. I have taken courses from all three and their teaching styles are all different, but verygood, and you are dealing with very knowledgable instructors......
Now as for diving in Marmora....the dive mecca of east-central Ontario.....:rolleyes: ....We dive below the dam.....good for a tank and shallow dive (25' avg)...great drift dive before the water levels get down..... and we dive the Crowe Lake..we use a local charter ...Tim's Dive boat....pretty much a do it yourself charter...no help in ..no help out...no head, no food, just lot of laughs....There are some great rock formations in the Lake and if you are lucky ..Tim may take you to his favorite dive spot known only to him...The place where we still search for his lost boat ladder, anchor, knife, weights and line..............
Check with Weight_for_me and Bottom_Sucker for their rave reviews of this Charter.........Makes Big Jims in Kingstom look like.......diving from the Queen E..............:D

....and so are the dive buddies. And if we have too many, we can always lash 2 pontoon boats together.
Geez Butch, do you think we could find a few munchies to take with us if we had some guests?

Let us know.....The charter generally runs both Sat and Sunday....Usually twice on Sunday...am and pm...depending on weight_for_me's wifes schedule;)
