Don't they extend the "finger of friendship" like Dolphins do?!!?!?

We also were blessed with sharks on our dive on Punta Sur in August. But we only had 3 black-tip sharks cruise up on us... Love that dive too...

They are Black Tips.
I saw one at Columbia deep less than two weeks ago.
I had heard they were in number at Punta SUr.
We/Blue XTC/Pedro checked it out the next day.
We decended at the begining of the Cathedral part of Punta Sur over sand 100 feet to the bottom
There were to many to count.smaller ones in close with the larger ones off a little. As we decended among them they moved off until we moved on.
Did this dive twice so I would think there still there.

Shark nursery?

Hope they stick around for a few weeks. In all my trips to Cozumel I have yet to see any sharks other then nurse sharks.

? Maybe.
We seem to enter at the very begining of the Cathedral portion of Punta Sur or would be the most southern point of the reef.
It took Pedro a little while to find the spot both dives. It's deep.
Same place both dives had many but did not see any others at any other part of Punta Sur.
If Christi of BXTC is reading maybe she can ask Pedro or Arturo if they are still there.

The dive at Punta Sur Sur, which is the reef section starting well south of the Cathedral and Devil's Throat, is where we have recently seen Caribbean Gray Reef Sharts on a regular basis--but only since hurricane Wilma. STRANGE!

These are "bad boys" and generally much larger than the black tips that have been around this area for a long time. But whether you want Black Tips, Caribbean Gray Reef sharks, or the ocasional Great Hammerhead... Punta Sur Sur is where to go.

I agree they looked more like the Caribbean Reef Shark to me also. Same kind I saw at Stuarts Cove in the Bahamas that we fed. Saw them at Punta Sur Sur on the 10Th, first 2 small ones that kept there distance, then another 4 larger ones that came quite close, first in a straight line following the leader then in a circle around us. I would guess 5-6 footers. (larger than my dive master/friend Raul Platas). Raul and I saw a small 2-3 footer on a night dive last Feb. at Cedral Pass also, that was real funny the little thing went right between his legs then got all confused by all the flash lights hitting him in the eye and ran nose first into the reef.

Another reason not to bring bait into the water with you!

From earlier this week. They are weak but best I could get. Our DM, Gustavo, said they were Black Tip reef sharks. I really do not know. They were cool though.

DAVE!!!,

WOW, so you weren't throwing us a "deer hunting story"! Ha, Ha. Your pictures prove you were not exagerating the truth like all the deer hunters around here tell...

I'm loving seeing the proof. Thanks for sharing.

Just to make double sure about this Memo Mendoza and I were at Punta Sur Sur this morning. At the south end, over the sand we encountered 8 good size Caribbean Gray Reef sharks. Most were in the 6-7 ft range--they are NOT Black Tips.

After spending 15 minutes watching them (and them us) we proceded North and just about everytime we came out of a swimthrough we'd see one or two again.

Every trip we have sent there for the last two weeks have seen these sharks...so if you want to see sharks--get your tickets for Cozumel and demand that your dive op of choice take you there.
