Hello,

The dust cap of my MK17 is a plastic one that is just placed directly over the DIN head. I mean, it has no thread to screw, you just push it over. Having only rental regulators until now, they were yoke based (and in the yoke's case, i felt that the dust cap was secured better by the screw that was fixing it in place).

Is this safe enough for washing the regulator? I feel that water might enter the first stage if I submerge it in water. For example, with the dust cap in place, if I breathe from the second stage the dust cap is not stopping air to pass through.

You are correct - get a high quality screw on cap that will seal against the o-ring if you plan to rinse the reg while it is not attached to a tank.
