View Full Version : Getting a uwatec to display feet (not meters)?
diver42 January 21st, 2003, 02:22 PM Is there a way? I hate doing the calc in my head. I guess I could just start doing my planning in metric... O-ring January 21st, 2003, 02:27 PM They only sell the Uwatec bottom timers in meters...if you got it from them, I think you are set to meters forever. I am pretty sure they only come in feet or meters and are not switchable. You should probably switch immediately since the metric system is not DIR. Anyone who says different is dangerous and should be avoided. Scubaroo January 21st, 2003, 02:41 PM O-ring once bubbled... You should probably switch immediately since the metric system is not DIR. Eric dmdalton has one and he seems to like it, but I don't think he has gotten it wet yet. I will see how his turns out before I order anything myself...probably get one in the next couple of months if his seems to do the job. ericfine50 January 21st, 2003, 02:52 PM Yea. He told me about the new toy. Sounds interesting, but I hear you need to read the manule a few times. Eric diver42 January 21st, 2003, 02:57 PM is... Scubaroo January 21st, 2003, 03:02 PM Freediving computer / bottom timer. Not a dive computer, but a backup / gauge instrument. Allows you to switch between imperial and metric, depending on where you live. MechDiver January 21st, 2003, 03:03 PM diver42 once bubbled... is... Sort of an upscale bottom timer/watch. Or a small Caterpiller dozer. With this bunch you're never sure  MD ericfine50 January 21st, 2003, 03:07 PM Mechdiver, Someone that knows about CATs. Cool. My fiance works on a farm and loves those machines. The John Deers are a close second. Eric Scubaroo January 21st, 2003, 03:19 PM O-ring once bubbled... the metric system is so convoluted and arbitrary that it doesn't make senseI'm afraid you're right O-ring, only the freaks amongst us with 10 fingers (counting thumbs for the pedantic) can figure the silly thing out! vlada January 21st, 2003, 03:56 PM as far a i know you need the device that connects your Aladin to a PC - Uwatec calls it a memo mouse. It comes with two pieces of software - DataTrak allows you to track you profiles, etc and DataTalk lets you switch the settings such as metric/imperial, PO2 for Nitrox use (the default is 1.5 - i switched mine to 1.4) You also get a choice of metric/imperial for the DataTrack. I grew up in a metric system, but do most of my diving in imperial, so i keep the computer in imperial and DataTrack in metric ;-) good luck, Vlada Scubaroo January 21st, 2003, 04:03 PM diver42, Were you talking about a Uwatec dive computer, or the Uwatec bottom timer? The assumption had been made in this thread that you meant the bottom timer, but Uwatec make computers too! supervisor January 21st, 2003, 04:19 PM O-ring once bubbled... Can you back it up with examples of how the metric systems is bad for diving? Are you saying that is does not work or you just cant understand it? Just curious... Scubaxris Scubaroo January 21st, 2003, 08:08 PM scubaxris, O-ring is just being a troll - he just forgets to use smiley faces. Looks like you chummed too soon and wound up with only a few Euro stragglers.... oh, well, can't land a tuna every day. :D Wreck/Tec January 28th, 2003, 02:55 PM When I bought mine, in Canada, they, the LDS, asked if I wanted metric or US equivelants. They are sold, or should I say marketed, for either or, not both ! Wreck/Tec frogfish January 28th, 2003, 09:05 PM O-ring - Being a metric system user (by birth !), could you please explain why it is not right according to DIR principles ? Sounds a bit weird to me... Jonathan January 28th, 2003, 09:13 PM If you buy your Uwatec bottom timer from OMS (rebadged) then it is in feet - even if you buy it in a metric country as I found. Sent it back and baught a metric one from DiveInn. You can't switch them I'm afraid. You may be able to with the computers if you have datatrack - but I've never looked into that as I don't want to! Save yourself and switch to Imperial! frogfish January 29th, 2003, 06:32 AM ... and drive on the left side of the road and so forth. Not sure I get your joke anyway You aren't still driving on the left, are you? I thought that went out with monarchys and the paddle wheel... Do yourself a favor and switch measurement systems and start driving on the other side of the road. If anyone gives you any crap about it, call them a stroke and tell them you are the one doing it right. djhall January 29th, 2003, 11:15 PM The UWATEC computers are switched between imperial and metric via the computer software and interface. If you have the SmartPro or SmartCom then you can do this from most computers with an infrared port. If you have one of the Aladin series, you need the MemoMouse adapter. I have one of these and can make the change, but you would have to ship me the computer unless you live around here. You may be able to find a UWATEC dealer in your area that has one available and can change your computer for you. Best of luck. DiveTub January 29th, 2003, 11:32 PM O-ring once bubbled...
