Hello everyone,
I've got a few days off around Christmas and am thinking about making a trip to the NC coast for some diving.I've never dove it this time of year and would like to hear your opinions. What kind of water temps can I expect? What is typical vis this time of year?Is it even worth the try or should I look for another dive site?Any advice or info would be greatly appreciated, Thanks! Troy

I havn't been myself, but my understanding is that the temp and vis dros significanly in the winter. You could expect something around 60 degrees with 40 foot vis.

They've got a chart on their website.

It's getting kinda chilly around here. You will need 7mm or better yet, a dry suit. Hey, I'm a wus, so you might not listen to me. Ask you question at NC Divers, NC Wreck Diving, NC Quarry Diving, NC Group Dives, NC Coast Diving, North Carolina Diving North Carolina Wreck Diving (http://www.ncdivers.com) They'll know all the current info.
BTW, the vis can be really good in the winter. The sand tigers are even more numerous, then.

The diving can be good, and almost all of the big ops will run trips all year, but you face 2 challenges - (1) bad [windy] weather, and (2) finding enough people to run a trip.
Unless you have a big group (or at least 4 to charter a 6-pack), you can't really expect to find a trip running every day. On the other hand, you can probably find a trip or two if you are willing to be flexible.
What part of NC are you headed for?

The Hebe is a great dive. We are going to dive it a few times this weekend. Lots and lots of life on the wreck.

Sounds great! When you get back let me know how it was.I've never dove it but from what others have told me it should be a great dive this time of year.I just hopes the weather cooperates with us. Troy
