please support Underwater Africa's petition to topple the proposed law to ban all scuba diving in wide areas along the Cape Coast.
South Africa has powerful laws against poaching. They are just not enforced.
Recreational divers don't have anything to do with poaching.
Recreational divers have in the past even served to stop poaching by reporting poachers to the authorities - sometimes under thread for health and life from the poachers.
You can find the full thread on the regional Africa forum:
No more diving along the Cape of Good Hope coast
Please help stop this madness. A ban of recreational diving will ruin the local diving industry and allow the poachers to proceed with raping the ocean of its resources unobserved & unreported.
Please sign the petition before the 15th of January 2008.
If you decide to do nothing:
Many of the Cape's historic wrecks like the HMS Birkenhead will be beyond reach from February 2008.
No more diving in the Cape's unique and colourful Kelp forests.
No more Great White Shark cage diving.
Thanks for your support!
