So, what was that huge snail on the side of the Massachussets? A hairy Triton, or a horse conch?

No, there was another one near the tie-in down by the sand. Must have been 10-12"

I really enjoy to learn about the sealife and shells that I encounter while diving. For me it really adds to my experience knowing what I am looking at. With each dive out in the Gulf I learn at least one new marine creature or new shell. Last weekend for instance I learned the the name of crazy looking snails I have seen on alot of the artificial reefs I have been on are called cowries. The picture of one is above. I then started looking up on the internet until I found the exact kind, a deer cowrie. I discovered this when one of my pictures showed the actual shell and what it looks like when it is not totally covered by the spikes.
