Popular underwater photography & video sites Wetpixel & DivePhotoGuide jointly host an interesting series of underwater photo & video competitions in collaboration with major dive expos on opposite sides of the world, simultaneously. The competition at Our World Underwater just closed 2 weeks ago. Winners will be announced at the film festival in Chicago and online (including right here on Scubaboard!) on Feb 15, 2008. Over $50,000 in prizes will be awarded at Our World Underwater. The 'sister' competition is in association with DEEP Indonesia, Indonesia’s first-ever Diving, Adventure Travel and Water sports expo, which takes place in Jakarta.

These are international competitions and can be entered by anyone, anywhere. A list of winners and prizes for previous competitions can be found online at UnderwaterCompetition: Wetpixel and DivePhotoGuide Underwater Photo Contests.

There is still a week left before the Feb 15th deadline for DEEP Indonesia 2008.

7 Categories, Big Prizes

For the 2nd annual DEEP Indonesia Competition, photographers will compete in 7 themed categories to win over $30,000 in prizes, including photo equipment, dive gear, and premium dive travel packages to some of the top photo destinations in Indonesia and beyond.
Indonesia trips include Ambon, Bali, Fak Fak, Komodo, Lembeh, Manado, and Raja Empat. Additional dive packages include Papua New Guinea and The Bahamas.

Categories For All Levels From Point & Shoot Novices to Professionals

The official categories are:
  1. Divers
  2. Animal Portrait
  3. Animal Behavior
  4. Compact Camera
  5. Reefscapes
  6. Environment & Conservation

Compact (point & shoot) camera shooters can participate for a chance to win the same high quality prizes as those shooting with SLR's. All compact camera entrants will also receive one free online lesson courtesy of Marty Snyderman and TheUnderwaterPhotographer.com.
