This is an appeal going out to photographers interested in contributing to coral reef education:

Underwater photographers know how quickly our harddrives fill up with what we love most – great shots of underwater scenery and marine life.

For illustrating a new educational publication teaching scuba divers and snorkelers about coral reef organism behaviours, Beautiful Oceans wants you to dig out your ‘golden shots’. We are trying to locate photographs to portrait 30 coral reef species (see list at the end of this posting) and we prefer to turn to you, the underwater hobby photographer.

Our requirements:

• You must be the owner of the photograph that you are submitting
• A high resolution format of the photograph must be available (somewhere over 1 Meg)
• You should be able to sign a ‘Copyrights Release’ form for your photograph(s) so that we can actually use it

What is in it for you if your photo gets selected?

Beautiful Oceans offers…

• A SciencePAK Gold ‘Coral Reef Ecosystem & Foodweb’, comprised of a collectors binder, a course manual (130 pages, full color), digital full-color print submersible dive slates for application of course content in water, access to the respective online course containing interactive quizzes and leading to an official certificate of completion, computer headset with microphone. You will also receive a copy of the coral reef organism behavior booklet that features your photograph (planned to be printed in November 2008).

• Your name as the author of the photograph will be added to your photograph
• One SciencePAK Gold per photographer and household.

Please follow these submission rules (I am a little afraid of congestion of our e-mail server if we receive large quantities of photographs):
• Please send your photograph or information to training @ beautifuloceans dot com
• If you send more than one picture, please send LOW resolution photos only (you must possess a HIGH resolution format of the photograph you are submitting)
• The maximum allowable size for individual e-mail attachments is 3 Mega octets, but you may submit more than one e-mail with attachments
• You may also send a link to a webpage featuring the photograph you are submitting. In this case, please indicate clearly which photograph you are submitting
• Please add the following specifications to your sending: name of species, the location where it has been taken, YOUR COMPLETE CONTACT INFORMATION (name, mailing address, phone number, fax number if available)

Beautiful Oceans does not guarantee that submitted photographs will be selected for publication, nor does your submission of photographs represent a contractual obligation of any kind between you and Beautiful Oceans. Beautiful Oceans guarantees that your photograph will not be used for publication without your prior consent.

For any additional questions you may have, please contact me directly at stephan @ beautifuloceans dot com.

I thank you very much for your consideration and help,
