I will be in this area for a week this summer (early August) and am wondering what kind of diving is in the area. (Any reefs, etc?, average depth, time to get to dive sites vai boat, etc)

Also, any recommendations for a dive operator.

I am PADI AOW Cert, ~20 dives total, but am comfortable in all conditions

Thanks for your help

I stayed at IOP last year and ended up going to Moorehead City NC to dive. I did consider Cooper River but I am glad I went for some awesome wreck diving instead.

Check out Charleston Scuba (charlestonscuba.com). I've been out w/ them a couple of time. There is some reefs, a couple wrecks, and a ton of artificial wrecks out there. Pretty neat/wierd stuff like armored personell carriers, a NYC Subway train, etc. I agree that the better diving is up north. You can drive 45 minutes to Murrell's Inlet (just south of Myrtle) and do some world class wreck diving.
