Hi all,

I usually dive with ERD when I am in Cozumel, but I am exploring alternate opportunities for my upcoming trip. I will be traveling with a friend of mine and do not plan on diving this trip. We will be staying at the Occidental Grand across the way, and will need to ferry over to Cozumel.

I want her to experience snorkeling at a place where they don't entice the fish with food. This has been the only way she has snorkeled in the past on cruise ship excursions. So I'd love to go out to the popular shallow diving reefs that snorkelers can also enjoy.

Eagle Ray does a great job of this - they offer 3 reef snorkeling trips with lunch - but I am possibly anticipating that on the US's 4th of July weekend, there could be a lot of divers taking advantage of the 3 day weekend and some of the boat space may fill up. So I am just exploring all opportunities :)

So who are some recommendations for other small dive ops who carve out some space for snorkelers and will allow them to float topside while they take divers down? Maybe they accomodated your family while you went diving?

Edited to say - if you have any recommendations for Playa, I'll take those as well. But I prefer Coz, of course!

Thanks for anything you can provide!

I am sure you will get plenty of great recomendations on this board!
We always dive with Albatros Charters in Cozumel. On several trips we brought along friends who snorkled while we dove. Give Rita a call, pehaps she can arrange for a private charter for your family or have space for snorkelers on a scheduled trip. Their website is Cozumel - Mexico - Albatros Charters (http://www.albatroscharters.com). Whatever you decide to do, have a great trip to Cozumel.

Blue Angel (at Caribe Blu) runs a combo trip most mornings at 10 AM.

The first year my buddy and I were certified, Deep Blue took the wives went out on the boat with us so they could snorkel and watch us below. I will say it wasn't optimal snorkeling, but my buddy's wife had a good time. My wife is snorkel impaired-she just has a hard time. I guess it's the whole breathing with your face in the water, I don't know.
