Good news for us Tuscaloosa folks...there's a new dive shop in town! We've unfortunately been without a local dive shop for a year or so...

It's called The Reef...and it's located at 1718 12th Ave...phone number 205-248-8313.

I haven't been able to visit yet, but I did drive by, and you can't miss it...there's a giant dive flag painted on the side of the building!

Yippee for not having to drive 40 miles for an air fill :D

From what I understand, it went out of business after the unfortunate accident at UA.

There is a "Ski-n-Scuba" license plate in the front window...maybe the new dive shop is owned by the same people?

Yeah, I looked that up, too...

I swear I'm not making it up...there really is a new dive shop in Tuscaloosa :)

One of the NorthStar dispatchers told me it's name was "The Reef", but I don't know that for sure, because there was no sign on the front of the building yet...

If you look on the Pinnacle Aquatics website, under "dealers", you'll see it...

Pinnacle Aquatics

Scroll about 1/6 of the way down...

I finally hit a post count of 200...Sweet!

According to the NAUI website, they are listed as a dive center...

I wonder how long they have been open? Right after certification, I remember driving to all the various places Ski-N-Scuba moved to, only to find out that they had went out of business a few months prior. I'm just surprised that someone managed to open a dive shop in my hometown, and I didn't even know about it! :D

The owner is Marcus Menges. It is not the same owners as Ski n' Scuba or Venture Sports. The Reef Scuba Center is not affiliated with the accident at UA its not the same operators or instructors. I got my viz and air fills from them this past weekend. They offer trips, equipment, etc My buddy actually just finished his OW with them this past Sunday.
So yep good news for not having to drive and hour for air fills or instruction!!

Sweet!

My OW instructor is in Tuscaloosa, anyways...so I've never had to drive for instruction, but having local air fills so totally rocks!!!

BTW, Noladiver, when are you planning on going diving again? Once I get over the flu (ugh!), I'd love to tag along, if you don't mind an extra person :)
