will be in the nubble light, maine area in july and am extremely excited about scuba there, as it will be my first. where is the closest place to rent tanks and weights?

If I remember correctly, the closest dive shops are in Portsmouth, NH, about 10 to 20 miles south of Nubble.

Welcome to Atlantic AquaSport

HTH.

You'll enjoy Nubble. It's a nice dive.

Buddies can be found pretty easily here. Just ask. I may be around at that time myself.

Portsmouth SCUBA is closer to Nubble but only by a few minutes.

Check out Spectrum's site. He's got a pretty extensive set of links going.

Depending on where you are staying there are the 2 shops mentioned to the south or you are heading to Portland where there are 3 shops.

If you find this site don't fall for it. The shop closed years ago and the website is a ghost.

Be prepared to dive in a 7mm wetsuit. By mid July a single layer can get you by but most still have 2X or at least a light vest for the core.

What is your timing and are you coming with a buddy? Maybe we can meet up.

Pete

thanks for all your answers. sounds like we'll be close to portsmouth scuba. i did find that "ghost" website for york beach scuba and wondered about it.

pete: my boyfriend and i are going to visit his family in mid july, not sure about dates yet. he's my dive buddy. would have to commit to a date to meet up since our plans are not solidified yet, but thanks for the meet up offer. and i will certainly wear the 7mm. i plan on a hood and gloves as well!

There is no taking of lobster, in Maine, by divers. It's also illegal to "molest" a trap which can pretty much be any touching, etc. if it does not belong to you.
