Please see below, Underwater World Singapore (commercial aquarium) has proposed serving Seahorse soup for the Singapore Food Festival. Seahorses are highly threatened, and many are protected under the CITES convention.

Please pass this on so other divers know.

Some Facts on Seahorses:

20 or so species of sea horses are listed on IUCN Red List of Endangered Animals threatened with extinction.
Declining numbers and diminishing size in many range states with seahorse fisheries.
Commercial catch in some areas has declined by 95%.
Seahorses are known to exhibit extremely slow reproduction
Hippocampus seahorses, commercially over-exploited for medicinal and aquaria trade, received restricted international trade protection at the U.N. Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) that took effect in February 2003.

Recently I read this :-

Such an astonishing thing to do in one's celebration and lavishing the plight of our marine life.

This is what I see as follows:-

This may have changed since it was pointed out to me, but here is Underwater World Singapore's contribution to the Singapore Food Festival - soup of an endangered and protected marine animal.

If any of you are wondering what you can do about this, you may wish to contact either of the following UWS representatives to voice your disapproval:

When you contact them, you may want to mention the following facts on seahorses:

Also, they might tell you in response that their menu has since changed and that they've taken seahorses off the list of dishes. Nonetheless, that initial release was circulated worldwide via email, and the damage has already been done in encouraging the consumption of a marine animal species that is under heavy pressure from commercial exploitation.

So, divers, ever seen a seahorse underwater? If so - and if not - then you'll know why they're worth saving. I'd much rather see one on a dive than in my soup, but at the rate the trade in them is going, I'm afraid the latter is looking the more likely possibility a few years down the road. Do your part to help stop the indiscriminate trade and consumption of these wonderful creatures

Let's write in jointly to show our disapproval.
