View Full Version : Another Bolt Snap Source
ericfine50 March 19th, 2003, 01:04 PM Found this online: http://bosunsupplies.com/ Up there with reefscuba.com $$$ wise. Eric Soggy March 19th, 2003, 01:56 PM Could someone recommend sizes to purchase for various pieces of equipment? i.e. Backup light SPG Long hose Thanks! ericfine50 March 19th, 2003, 02:10 PM Arron, I use Large and XL for the SPG and long hose. Med. for the back up lights. You gotta go with what works for your gloves. I know of some divers that use the Med. in cold water. Eric Spectre March 19th, 2003, 02:17 PM Am I looking on the right page? http://www.bosunsupplies.com/products2.cfm?product=S0176 The gate openings seem a little small? The macmaster-carr snaps are mostly all 3/8" opening, where that bo'sun supply place is half that size. Scubaroo March 19th, 2003, 02:26 PM dhnix on eBay have expanded their selection of bolt snaps as well - they now have double enders, and mixed selections. Still can't beat their prices, but you have to buy in bulk. http://cgi6.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewSellersOtherItems&userid=dhnix Mine are still holding up well after a year on a salt water diet - they have SS springs. ericfine50 March 19th, 2003, 02:30 PM Jeff, They are smaller, didn't notice that at first. Still would work for you. Nix's is also a great source. Eric Spectre March 19th, 2003, 02:34 PM ericfine50 once bubbled... They are smaller, didn't notice that at first. Still would work for you. Do you really think so? I don't have my d-rings in front of me, but 3/16s of an inch seems pretty tight to be trying to get something unclipped in a pinch. *shrug* Soggy March 19th, 2003, 02:35 PM The problem I'm having is that larger bolt snaps mean a larger ring, not necessarily a larger snap, which would be the important part. Gary & I ordered a bunch of "large" SS snaps from reefscuba along with a couple mediums. We are sending the large ones back, since the only difference between large and medium was the larges had an ENORMOUS ring. Lowes in Manchester, CT has a bunch of various sized bolt snaps that are fairly inexpensive. I think I may just go pick and choose what I need. What do y'all do with your game bag? I was thinking about stuffing it in the lift-bag pouch on the backplate until I caught something, and then clipping it off to the left waist dring. Thoughts? ericfine50 March 19th, 2003, 02:52 PM Arron, That would work - Make sure you can get the bag cleanly out of the backplate pad. You could also put it on the Butt D-ring. For the Snaps - Sorry about the larges from RS. Make sure the Lowes Snaps have SS springs. Eric Spectre March 19th, 2003, 02:54 PM AaronBBrown once bubbled... Lowes in Manchester, CT has a bunch of various sized bolt snaps that are fairly inexpensive. I think I may just go pick and choose what I need. Check them closely. It took me forever to even find SS snaps locally. I finally did at my local True Value. However they ended up being suicide bolt snaps... you could push a line into the gate and get the gate to open. Luckily my buddy is a dental technician, so he ground them all down for me; but I gave him all my spares for payment for services rendered. Soggy March 19th, 2003, 02:57 PM ericfine50 once bubbled... You could also put it on the Butt D-ring. I might get a lobster surprise if one of them gets feisty! :) For the Snaps - Sorry about the larges from RS. Make sure the Lowes Snaps have SS springs. That's what I'm concerned about. What quality SS should I get? Or, more importantly, what is the minimum quality SS. Walter March 19th, 2003, 02:59 PM You can beat these prices at most hardware stores in either stainless or brass. JeffG March 19th, 2003, 03:01 PM You can also check Pet store's for replacement snaps. ericfine50 March 19th, 2003, 03:01 PM Also check west marine or US Marine. They are a little more $$, but good marine SS Eric Walter March 19th, 2003, 03:09 PM I buy brass and then I know it won't rust. notabob March 19th, 2003, 03:09 PM Lowe's does sell SS snaps. I've bought a bunch at the one near me, and they've held up pretty well so far. They had single- and double-ended snaps in various sizes. Hopefully they had a chance to re-stock the mediums. I cleaned out the bin when I was there :) -Roman. Spectre March 19th, 2003, 03:11 PM Walter once bubbled... I buy brass and then I know it won't rust. I hear the brass ones have a tendancy to get sharp at the corners of the spring track; Have you noticed anything like that? I noticed it on some bronze ones I was using as a spare... Walter March 19th, 2003, 04:36 PM I've never had any problems.
