There is a method you can use by creating duplicate layers.

Let me see if I can find it for ya.

Try this . . .

Open the file you want to correct.

> = Click On
V = Scroll Down
< = Enter

1: > Window (Menu Bar)
2: V Layers; > Layers
3: > Layers (Menu Bar)
4: V Duplicate Layer; > Duplicate Layer
5: > OK
6: Repeat Steps 3, 4 and 5 (you now have 3 layers)
7: In Layers Menu Box; > Background (bottom layer)
8: > Edit (Menu Bar); V Fill; > Fill; Set Parameters ( Contents:Use - 50% Gray; Blending: Mode - Normal; Opacity - 100%); > OK
9: > Background copy (middle layer in Layer Menu Box)
10: > Layer (Menu Bar); V Layer Style, V Blending Options, > Blending Options
11: In Layer Style Box: Blending Options/General Blending/Blend Mode - V Luminosity, > Luminosity, > OK
12: > Layer (Menu Bar); V Merge Down; > Merge Down
13: > Layer (Menu Bar); V New Fill Layer; V Solid Color
14: In New Layer Box: Check "Group With Previous Layer"; > OK
15: In Color Picker Box: Set "R" to 255; > OK
16: > Layer (Menu Bar); V Layer Style; V Blending Options; > Blending Options
17: In Layer Style Box: Blending Options/General Blending/Blend Mode - V Multiply, > Multiply, > OK
18: > Layer (Menu Bar); V Merge Down; > Merge Down
19: > Background copy 2
20: : > Layer (Menu Bar); V Layer Style, V Blending Options, > Blending Options
21: In Layer Style Box: Blending Options/General Blending/Blend Mode - V Screen, > Screen, > OK
22: > Layer (Menu Bar); V Merge Down; > Merge Down
23: > Image (Menu Bar); V Adjustments; V Auto Levels; > Auto Levels

That should get you somewhere close to what ya want.

I use PS7, but I am not as familiar with the layering (and building sets). I played around with 2 of the pics just using the color balance and brightness/contrast adjustments. If you have a lot of pics that you are working with, you might find this easier. (Also, sometimes I use the auto levels to get me a better starting point, then adjust with with the color balance sliders.)
