I ordered a hoop stringer today from eBay, and had a question... I'm assuming I'll just hang it from one of my waist d-rings, but a friend was wondering if I wouldn't get stuck by the spiny fish (mostly rock cod) we have around here that I would be spearing. I thought it was a good point, though I suppose if you're horizontal, they should be hanging below you (and are hopefully dead!)

Ideally the fish are dead once they get on the stringer so they are not as much of a problem. I think clipping off to a D ring is not recommended in case something decides it wants your fish for dinner. I've had lobster grab my leg through a catch bag while diving with shorts and scrape me up pretty good.
