We came across this critter at Back Beach today. Does anyone know what it is? I'd appreciate an ID as I'm a bit stumped.

Yeah, definitely a puffer of some kind. He just didn't look like the northern puffers I've seen before.

Yep Most likely a northern puffer and a very colorful one at tha (maybe tropical). Nice picture by the way. Did you use a strobe.

Thanks. No strobe or flash, just some white balancing. We were only in about 15' of water, and the sun was pretty strong.

I took a photo of one down in Jupiter a couple of years ago and yours looked close enough to the one I took to google for the image to doublecheck. I had no idea that tropicals made it up as far as Back Beach, though....
