Hey everyone!!

I was in Sarnia on the weekend and checked out under the bridge.

Not alot of ice... a few small chunks floated past.

Anyone been diving there yet this year??

Question: they changed the shoreline, it looks as though they took out the chunks of rock that were there before and added a nice rock wall. anyone take a look at it?? it's right by the french fry trucks (which were out and they were damn good!!! :D )

I didn't look to closely but it looks as though it will be more difficult to get in there.

Just curious if anyone else has checked it out.

the warm weather's coming... yahoooooooooooo!!!!!

I haven't been there in over 10 years since I moved to Kingston.
I have about 200 dives in the river I'll bet it's changed alot.
We used to do the drift on the American side and collect fishing lures then sell them back to the guys fishing along the wall.
We made enough to pay the bridge toll, get supper and a couple of beers. Hey! would that make me a Commercial diver! :D

yeah they had been working there all last summer. I am not sure why they did all that work. I have heard that is all gov property. I certainly hope they don't ban diving there:wacko: It would be greatly missed. If you want to do the Monarch now you get in at the wooden posts just before the Casino and ride the back eddy towards the bridge and stay near the bottom so you can see the cable and grab on to it and follow it out to the Monarch. The cable is still attached to the metal collapsed wall in front of where they have developed. We threw a toilet in the water at that point last year. So if you are drifting close to shore you will know you are right near the cable attached to the wall.

It is definetly a great dive.

I usually like to hit the barge and then let the current take me over to the Monarch. Then I use the cable to get back. there used to be an old mooring post (or whatever you call it) that was at a perfect height to set my tank to geared up, and then I used to go down the rocks, and the barge was right out in fron to there. It was nice getting in and out there. At least we can still get in farther down.

It's a great dive.

It is acutally the Village of Pt Edward that owns it. and they get alot of money from the casino being there, so I imagine they did the work along the shore to use up some of that money.

I used to live in Pt Edward, before I started diving, crazy eh. Now I live in Hamilton and drive there to go diving. very crazy.

Thanks Rooster for the info!!

Diver dude... great idea about collecting the fishing lures,... I found a few the last time i was there as well. Never thought about selling them... great idea!!

A guy from the shop was in the river last weekend and said the temp was 33 with excellent vis. A north wind will mess that up pretty quick though.

It's not that bad!
We have been going all winter in Port Huron.
The vis has been awsome untill today.
The ice cap is gone on the lake and the North wind stirred it for the first time in months.

I was in the pool last weekend, but the week before we saw 33 deg. Most of the Ice sems to be gone so I think we will be seeing the temp start to climb as soon as we warm up a bit.

One of my dive buddies and I are always doing local shore dives up in Port Huron where he lives. I would like to give the Monarch a whirl this season.

Right now I just want to get a dive in period!! I need my fix! :out:

Hi Guys I live and dive in Sarnia. The work that has been done at the river was by the Blue Water Bridge Authourity. The Town of Point Edward will be doing more work this fall down to the Casino.

I am a member of the local Dive Club and we stay in touch with them. They have promised to include a diver access in the shoreline work and want our input to maintain the diving activity.
We should eventually get a clean area to gear up etc.

I hear it will be up to 34F this weekend, hope to get in Sunday.:)

Welcome to the board mcrae and thanks for the information. If they are willing to spend a little coin then a platform and some steps would be great:)

Hi Bad news but he viz in the St Clair is about 0 ft. Strong north wind here so it will be bad till at least mid week.
If anyone is interested in coming to Sarnia and wants to check out the current conditions then just E-mail me and I will be happy to let you know.

Alternately if you are an out of towner who comes here regulary send me you E-mail and I will put you on my River Report list. No guarantees but I try to send out the viz report every Wednesday and Friday at noon. Friday can be dicey as I take a lot of them off and go diving somewhere.

Keep your fingers crossed for next weekend. Maybe the Easter Bunny will bring good viz. :)
