hi everyone,
i was just wondering what are possibilities for the long deco stops on 9m/6m/3m. WHat are you doing? Reading? Whatching movies? Playing games (board,...)? Teezing you buddy?
ANy idea is welcome... maybe we come up with some new ones?

Hi Sasha... like the avitar
Long decos... relative term. Hanging out on a line in blue water is of course carries the highest potential for boredom... on rocks and stuff there are fish and tiny critters to look at... and good "line games" are: Tie up your buddy; Steal and Swop (a sort of clandestine exchange of reels, lights and so on among your unsuspecting dive buddies). This is an excellent game when the deco is crowded! Also good are the small plastic games that have sliding tiles which one has to rearrange into some order... a picture of series of numbers. Reading works but tends to be environmentally unfriendly.
Take care

I usually relax ant think at the dive, analyzing it.
But my deco stops are not longer than 40-50 mins until now

there is another thread on here right now asking if anyone has fallen asleep underwater and so far a few have mentioned nodding-off during their deco stops.

Anyone try one of those underwater walkmans?
I was thinking about getting one. I even saw one that offers small underwater speakers instead of headphones so the group can hear the music.

But what if they don't like your music?
I've not yet seen one with enough depth rating to be usable.

You know...
the fun little game where we try cutting your hoses.

omni-directional speakers used by syncronized swimmers are rated to one or two meters for depth and throw out sufficient wattage to be heard during the deep stops. Only trouble is you have to make sure that there are no jokers on the surface with access to Abba and Patsy Cline CDs
Sound is pretty good... Sea Hunt. HUMMMMMMMM!!

It depends on what you call a long deco.. anything under 1:30 I just generally just relax and chill out.. On moderate decos over 1:30 I'll bring a paperback book and tear out each page after I read it..

How about watching your buddy during long deco's?
Maybe that's assumed but I wanted to make the point that it's very important to watch your buddy during deco for any signs of tox or other problems.
Having said that.... in the caves during deco we sometimes play with the bream that hang out in the cavern area. See how close we can get them to come... try to drop small pebbles on them (never works ;) lure them to you by pretending your finger is a worm, etc. I've actually had some try to peck at me if I am still long enough...

I was thinking about getting one of these until some people pointed out the down sides. Like not being able to hear an air leak or your buddy yelling into his reg. I think hearing is important when doing tech diving and shouldn't be covered up for entertainment purposes.
