Looking for guidance on multi day nature tours in Indonesia in Jan 09.

After getting off liveaboard in Bali, I want to get a taste of nature on land. I'm interested in visit to Orangutans but also other jungle nature as this is the place. I'm looking for nature lodge with day trips kind of place.

I've found Sepilok, but don't know what is out there or even whether that's what we're looking for.

Thanks

Hi,

Not many nature conservation locations in Bali. Many more in N Malaysian Borneo. If you are heading to Borneo you might check Borneo Rainforest lodge www.brl.com.my it is in a beautiful area with much wildlife.

Bali is better for culture, massage, surfing, scuba and spas. Been there 4X - 2.5 months in total so feel free to email with questions.

Get the Lonely Planet guide. There is the Monkey Forest, visit to temples, native dancing. etc. I was told to hire a private driver rather than going with a tour bus. It takes a lot of time to get to places a driver will be faster. Be prepared to buy him lunch

A private driver will probably run something like $30us per day. Usually they will try to charge 2-3X as much - so will everyone on bali. They will be at your service throughout the trip. Better to get a recommendation for a driver, as many drivers commission seek and tour you to places where they will benefit. The volcanos/lakes to the north are quite prety but much of bali is populated. I like Ahmed/Tulemben quite and fun diving.

There is a natural reserve to the west in Bali but surrounded by Muslim culture so you loose the flamboyant dance, art, etc that bali is famous for.

I can give detailed info if you email directly. Have drivers, etc that will save you much hastle.

hum, the last brl link did to the borneo rainforest lodge did not see to work. Try this: http://www.borneorainforestlodge.com/info/index.htm - if your in the neighborhood dive @ sipadan - semporna sabah malaysia!

Once you fly to Kuala Lumpur you can use airasia.com as a taxi - easy to book online and cheap flights everywhere.

I went to Sepilok, in Borneo, after diving Sipadan. I did Uncle Tan's Nature lodge, which is in the area. Sepilok is the Orangutan Rehab center, but to see them wild you gotta go with Uncle Tan's, or one of the other Nature lodges int he area. They also have wild herds of Pygmy Elephants that cruise the area. Really nice place.
