That's why I buy inexpensive watches. Even then they can be collectible. Take the above Smiths Deluxe for example. Guess what Sir Edmund Hillary was wearing when he climbed Everest? Cost me <$100 including a new strap.
 
I had a Citizen Aqualand. It was rock solid.
