crl450:Thanks for that I didn't know that the latest software could use the serial port direct. Because it does, I've just bought a serial IR adapter off eBay (designed to be able to control your PC with a remote - for playing DVDs etc I think). Anyway, it was only £12 so it's worth giving it a try.
I won't be able to try it for a couple of weeks as I'll be away, but I'll let you know how it goes when I get back. In the meantime if you want to try it yourself, I bought it on the UK eBay site (cause I'm in UK) and they do have some more. Just search for 'Infrared remote control of PC'.

crl450:I know the Oceanic Log interface uses the parallel port so I was thinking of getting a serial or USB IR adapter and then redirecting the parellel port to the new device. That way you should still be able to use the Oceanic software which you can download from their web site. I was hoping someone had already done this but judging from the lack of replies to my query no-one has.
I think I'll probably get a serial IR adapter and just give it a go and see what happens. In the mean time I'll keep checking Ebay, which is where I bought the XTC 100 anyway!
Strange that Oceanic advised you not to buy the interface from them as it wasn't worth it - I wonder if they would release the technical details of how the device communicates - it probaby just sends the data in ASCII after some form of handshake.
Anyway if I have any luck I'll let you know.
