What is Cabo like in Feb temp. wise? Is it warm enough to escape the winter freeze we will be in at that time of the year?
Lastly, how does the diving rate compared to Cozumel?
Thanks,
Steve

I doubt you will do any diving in Cabo in Feb. The water is cold and that is the winter so seas are rough. The fishlife is nothing compared to Cozumel.

WOW did you ever just burst my bubble Robin. I have always wanted to go to Cabo and I had never really the urge anytime other than in the winter :depressed:. Is the diving really that bad and seas that rough? Especially consider the diving in Cozumel is not at all good IMHO....it might have been great before 2005 but when I was there in 2007 it was not worth the money.

I guess it's personal experience. I just dove Cabo and Cabo Pulmo 2 weeks ago, and I've dove Playa. Both have there pros and cons. Cabo had many more fish in general, including large fish. Playa had more tropical varieties, Cabo had bigger for sure.... at leats thats what I experienced. That being said, in Febuary? I dunno.

Hello I have Dove Coz in Feb.Big swells 6 to 8 feet are common. My last trip there 8 out of 12 divers were to sick to make the secound tank. Getting back on the Boat was a stunt mans job.
Diving Cabo at that time in Cabo is OK because The trips are done at the local spots that are protected by the natural formation of the Cabo Bay.This is also why the marina was built there and it only takes 5 min by boat to get to the Dive areas.
Water will be in the around 65 coz is only 5 degrees warmer.
On shore the air Temp.s are in the 80s a little cooler at nite but during the day is shorts, sandles and t shirts.
I Dive with Baja Dive nice 40 foot boat and a great crew. www.baja-dive.net (http://www.baja-dive.net)

Temp in the 80's? I have read that the temp. in Feb is generally in the 70's. Can anyone else give input as to the average temps.

Steve

Hey Steve,
I was talking to my guide when I was there a couple weeks ago, and he said the same thing, 80's in feb. I was like...what?? He said the colder months were March-April. Maybe you can contact some of the shops down there, ask them when the coldest time of year is and what those temps would be...;)

This just like home at the warmest part of the year.....I guess if I could just get past the super rough seas, I could just dive my 7mm suit and be happy. Alas....it sounds like it is not to be :depressed: :shakehead:

Sue is right about the rough seas in Cancun .I had almost the same experence with big waves last time there.
I also like Cabo for Winter Diving less chance of getting blown out.
I have Time shares in Cabo And Cancun so I dive both a lot.Aquq World in Cancun is great nice Boats, good crew and a free breakfast.
When in Cabo I Dive with Baja Dive they have been therE for 13 years and have a good Rep.I like the way that they split the groups new Divers in one and advanced in the outher this way Im not coming up with a half tank.
Cabo pulmo is a great Dive I saw Hammer heads, Sea Lions and Two Whale Sharks on our last Dive There two years ago.

This year our water has been warmer than usual. Yesterday it was 81. The water stays warm until the end of January...So it could cool off the the 70's. But the diving is so fun here. It's likeg jumping into a huge aquarium. I can customize your dives for you and it would just be your group. We only do private tours for about the same price. You don't have the hassle of beginners and advanced and classes on the same boat....Call me at 479-935-9678 and if my Mom answers be patient...she's 83. I have lived here 20 years in Cabo and can help you in any way.
Thanks....Donna

Hey Steve;
Cabo is way warmer than Ontario in Feb..... We own a timeshare in Feb and go often, but I have traded it in the last couple years and gone to the CAncun side (Puerto Aventuras and Akumal) JUST for the diving! We love Cabo (but the diving on the Caribbean side is way better), in Feb it will be warm during the day, but cool in the evening, I have to wear a light jacket in the evening, and the ocean temp will be in the 60s. The diving in Cabo is good for big sea life, the vis is usually just ok, and there really isn't much soft coral to speak of, but the sea lions are really awesome if they decide to come play with you. I would wear a 7mm and a hood!
Do a search on this site and you will find out that the water is cooler in Feb and has less visibility than Oct/Nov.
I dive Cabo every chance I get but I don't go to Cabo just for the diving, we go because we have a whole bunch of NONdiving friends who go there and we like to holiday with them.
Have fun! Choco
PS.. I was in Puerto AVenturas in Jan 08 and the water temp was 81 degrees, calm and excellent vis. We dove out of Playa Del Carmen too, the seas were a bit choppy but still excellent diving!! Also, if you do happen upon a day too bad to dive the ocean, go dive the Cenotes!!!

I forgot to add that in talking with the DMs in Cabo, the diving is good until about mid Nov to late Nov and then the ocean "changes" and it gets cooler and the particulate matter increases. I don't remember why they said it happens, it just does, and the water seems greener too.

I'm heading to Cabo in January and from the comments here, it sounds like heaven compared to diving in Monterey, CA during the best conditions!
I am looking for a good dive company that is near the cruise ship docks. Any info there?

Baja Dive is close when you exit the cruise ship boarding area just look across the marina and you will see a tan colored resort they are on the far left side. there is a large Dive flag on frount. web site is www.baja-dive.net (http://www.baja-dive.net)
They use a large boat but dont over pack it.great Dive masters.

PERFECT! Thanks Sue! I have read so many great things about them, but was worried about their location. That will work great.
Thanks again!

FYI, Amigos Del Mar dive op is about 50 steps from the cruise ship dock, just look for the Dolphin Experience and they are in the mall next to that. Their boat is docked about 30 steps from the cruise ship dock. I use them every time I go to Cabo.
Oh, another thing, look at the website for any dive op you are considering and look at their boat, a lot of the DO use a panga (water taxi) that has no room for your stuff and is difficult to get back in to. Have fun.

Does anyone have any other recommendations on dive operators? Any preferences for Amigos del Mar or Manta Scuba? Thanks.

We went to Cabo this past August and had some of the best dives ever. The schools of fish are by the thousands! We had a close encounter with a sea lion and our DM took us to a seahorse. Here are some photos!

I dove Cabo on Tuesday. Air temp was comfortable in the high 70's low 80s. Water was 70F at 80fsw. about 74 on surface. Our guide said the water will continue to cool a bit until May, but that the air temp will start getting a little higher. Honestly, the weather was pretty close to being perfect.
Saw lots of fish at Pelican Rock and the sea lions were frolicking around the arch. Also, whale season has started. We saw 4 grey whales when the cruise ship was getting to the tip of land's End.
There was a scuba experience diver with us... she got cold in her 3 mm. I had my 7mm, no hood, and felt a tiny warm, but I like cooler water in my 7mm. My buddy brought his drysuit with light undergarments (he likes to be warm) and said he felt fine. I actually think he was sweating more up top then underwater.
Have fun!
Oh, almost forgot, TONS of Manta Mobilis flying out of the water, too!!!

I would like to thank you all for your information about diving Cabo.
I have been diving Cabo for 15 years, I own LandŽ´s End Divers and i can tell you that Cabo is a very nice place to dive, with more marine life than Cozumel , but no coral reef or water temperature ( in the winter only ) because from Ju? to Nov. our water gets up to 88 degrees with 100 ft plus visibility and you can see small or large schools of fish , whales, mantas etc.
Some time we need to dive the area more then once to see the difrences on marine life.
If the water temperure changes the marine life will also.
Thank you.
If need further information call ahead of time to see how the conditions are.
Any dive center in cabo will be very happy to assist you.
Please go to PADI.com to see a list of dive center in Cabo.
