The ducks or bowmanville sound interesting.. I'd prefer something without current :) I normally get all drift dives around here in the upper niagara river.. Its would be a nice change of pace to be able to stop and look at stuff :)
BTW.. Visibility in the upper niagara is 20+ft right now.. an awesome drift dive and early enough so you don't have to worry about boats. Just in case anyone cared..

OK -- everyone I goofed... this thread was here, then I tried doing some administration, and poof.....

The powers to be hopefully will be able to recreate from my mess.

Briefly, I've suggest Saturday July 26th for a BBQ,

Canuck diver had made a few suggestions, Tom R offered NDT's BBQ..

sooooo sorry

Edit note: At least now Sparky's comments are here instead of being orphaned.... DG

How about doing it at Lock 21 at the Long Saulte camp grounds. BBQ at a dive site and those that are travelling can pitch a tent for the night.

until we get the thread back....

the sites I was suggesting are:

ducks dive (shore dive with a barge and a diving bell in 60')

lock 21 (good multi-level dive, mild current)

bowmanville shore dive ( shallow wreck, many fish, no penetration)

We were discusing BBQ in the Texas site. It seems were not allowed to BBQ any more. Rice U did a study and now claims it's poluting the air to much

Well at least I've got an honourary status from Dee, even my own "Texified name" -- apparently down there I need two given names to use instead of a just one (sort of Bobby Joe instead of just Joe)

My best friend used to date a Bobby Jo. I dated her older sister but can't remember her name now. I also went to school with a girl named Elley May. I had a shop teacher named Joe Bob, drove an old Ford Bronco II. He was great even had all 10 of his fingers.

question everyone..the nxt time you have a dinner get together how about making it closer to us divers here in southern ontario somewhere in between where you are and where we are here in windsor..would have loved to meet everyone but couldnt see my self driving all that way for dinner lol..and maybe you can do the same for the barbq

cobaltbabe

I think that would be fair. With some of being in the middle it is easy for us to go either way. Next time we will go west.

pick a date, pick a place and put the call out. No reason why there can't be more than one dinner / BBQ going. For me to go further then the Kingston area is impractical (unless I make a weekend out of it... hmmm diving and a meal????) but others won't have the same travel problem.

Hmmm. No matter where you pick, some folks will have to travel a ways so...
Why not pick a site that will have good diving *first* (for a variety of skill levels) and work the supper in as part of it? Would people be more willing to travel for diving than for dinner? I know I would...

At the risk of offending those in Sarnia and elsewhere - that sounds like Kingston or Toby to me. If it's Kingston, some of the folks in the upstate NY may find it's feasible too. Carpooling may be possible for those in the SW.
Just a thought - and I'm not under any delusions about you guys being able to come up here :D

:) Glad we didn't have to give you a collective slap upside the head for even considering that....:D

I thinmk as central as possible and as non-threatening as possible.

Thats why Duck's came to my mind. It is reasonably central for southern Ontario, and the dive is a shore dive ( or we can charter with Duck's), the shore depth is up to about 60' (if memory serves).

The problem with Toby is although there is a little shore diving, the accomadations would be hard to get, and BBQ??.

Any other suggestions folks which would be "more" central?

I live somewhat in the center (Kitchener) and if there's decent diving around here, I haven't found it yet. There are a couple of quarries (shallow and lousy vis), but that's it. There a Provincial Parkette (no camping, day use only) with a dining shelter, picnic tables and a two holer just outside Wiarton that divers from my LDS frequently dive at. It's a decent shore entry, rocky (future sand :) ), but not big boulders. Drops off fairly quickly. No wrecks, but various items have been placed (old bikes, a flower pot stand, a STOP sign at 60 feet and more), with new items arriving periodically, crayfish and the occasional larger fish. Vis is usually about the same as Toby, water slightly warmer (till you get past 45 to 50 feet). Air fills are (were last season) available in Wiarton and there's a small motel with attached campground on the edge of Wiarton http://www.waterview.ca/index.html and another couple of campgrounds not too far away. We stayed at one trailerpark/campground last fall on the side of a lake, that looked to offer good potential for diving.

I was thinking we could do something at Abucs since they have camping availalbe for those who have to travel. We could do a mix of morning charters 1 for advanced and 1 for novice ( using the term nicely ) and then do a shore dive later in the afternoon on the Brockville waterfront in front of the Rowing club at Paradise Park our Scuba Clubs home park that we have built up of the the last few years with the wrecked barge etc. Then BBQW back at the cottage.

If the number of travellers coming aren't too many, I could offer up my 4 bedroom cottage to house a group for the weekend. Let me know if this might be something the group would consider and I;ll see what i can do. If some folks want to do a Sunday morning dive to the Keystorm we could take my boat ( only holds five with gear ) and do a dive and a little tour of the 1000 islands.

Cheers, Taz!

Camping (or B&B / hotel), and diving in the Brockville area would be great.

The offer to use your cottage (if only for the BBQ) is generous. Can I put my dibs in if we go with it?

Sure can Diving Gal! We have a covered summer house that we can stick the bbq in just in case it rains, if sunny we can move the bbq down to the grass area down by the shore. Have two big picnic tables that will seat 12 people each and plenty of space for lawn chair etc.

If we are sticking with July 26th that will be good because I should be on holidays, just trying to arrange it. I started a new job last month and it is/will be taking up a significant amount of my playtime this summer :( . However, I'll should have my Divemaster done by the end of June and getting some quality diving in with my fellow OFWF is at the top of my list :D

Cheers, Taz!

That sounds cool to me! I haven't dove there yet but have heard it's great. It was one of the 'must do's' for this summer.

At this point that date is ok for me too. I would also be calling dibs on a spot at Taz's place if that's ok:)

I'd forgotten it was you who generously volunteered your facilities. It is very kind of you to do so.

If the 26th of July is best for you then perhaps we could agree on that date?.....

Give it some thoughts folks...........

Groundhog246,
Yes you are right I am getting a little impatient but with the support of the OFWF members I have found my inner peace and will wait. I don't have a firm date set for my OW but my instructor will decide on a date that will work for the entire class. I know my recent posts have sounded rather desperate to say the least and I have been driving my DP nuts but I am relaxing and taking deep cleansing breaths now so I will survive. MAYBE!!!!!! ;)

Makes sense, but sounds somewhat wishy-washy. Perhaps a matter of the scale of the operation. The LDS where my wife and I trained (and our 14 yo starts this Tue, did I mention that? :D ) has set the OW schedule for the season already. First one is May 24/25 in Toby. We're hoping the 14 yo will be finished class and pool work for June 14/15 near Owen Sound.

Just wondering if anyone had the chance to check thier calendar for a date or if a location was decided upon?

Maybe we need a vote or something(poll).

A Question: Where is this 'Ducks' place that has been mentioned a few times?

Hey AquaBella:

Can't say about the calendar thing, but Ducks Diving is sound of the 401 about halfway between Oshawa and Kingston in Prince Edward County... empire loyalist farms, tea shops and excellent diving.

There's a website here http://www.ducksdive.com/

Check them out. George and Susan are good people.

duck dive is one of the best shore dive locations going, thanks to george and susan ;)

There's a barge and an old diving bell in 40' of water, lots of stuff to see, and a nice place to gear up.

I dive there regularly, anytime you want to go check it out, just let me know.

Thanks for the reccomendation, it sounds great!

I'm looking for some places to play this summer that are well..cheap. Around here there's Sarnia, where the vis is touch and go and Innerkip that well, just suxs.

So, I can either go down to Gilboa(5 hrs away) or up towards Ducks/Kingston/brockville area(same). Sounds like all the good stuff is up there anyway.

CD you lucky duck, living so close!:hohum: :D

Great advantage of Ducks is that there are real wrecks very close by. I like Gilboa too but it's a different type of dive altogether... and by the way, that should have been "south of the 401" not sound of

Take care

P.S. You're in London... do you know Mar Smith?

Oh yeah, I agree about the different kind of dive thing. Thanks for the directions.:)
