On our last day in N. Sulawesi (when we can't dive) next July I thought it would be fun and interesting to go to Tangkoko Park, but am not sure the best way to arrange it. We'll be coming from Gangga and I have a few questions...

1. Would it be best to stay right near the Park so that we can go on both dawn and dusk walks? If so, any suggestions on where to stay? A homestay?

2. Is it good to have a guide walk with us so that we'd see things we might not see on our own? Would we hire a guide on our own or have Gangga Resort or other agency do it for us? (more expensive , but worth it?) Any suggestions on a good quide and how to contact him/her?

3. Another option would be to stay at a hotel in Manado, see Tangkoko in the afternoon/evening, return to Manado and thus be able to take the early morning flight to Denpassar on Lion Air, but that may be rushing our time in Tangkoko. Any thoughts? The alternative is to sleep near Tangkoko and take later Garuda flight to Denpassar.

Any info. and helpful hints would be most appreciated!

Thanks

Dear Viva 1,
I have lived in Manado 11 years and have a small agency, we suggest -
DAY 01 (1-2 PM) Transfer by Safari Tours bus or AC 4 pax vehicle to Nature Reserve. The 2-hour drive to the 9000-hectare National Park is quite scenic as we pass through small villages. Upon arrival, immediately check in to Mama Roos Homestay or equivalent. You will then be guided by local forest rangers (and Safari staff) in search of the Black Crested Macaque (Black Monkey indigenous to North Sulawesi), hornbills, and couscous as well as other fauna specific to the reserve. Depending on what time it gets dark, we will head into the denser part of the jungle as the sun is setting, where you will (most likely) be able to get photographs of the Tarsier Spectrum (the world's smallest primate). After it is completely dark and the Tarsier have departed for their nightly foraging, we head back to the homestay for a basic traditional dinner. Overnight - dinner

DAY 02 Rising early, you will again hike into the forest with local rangers where you will have the best opportunity to view more birds and certainly the Black Crested Macaque as these monkeys are earlier risers and are searching out food along the coastline at Tangkoko. After several hours it's back to the homestay for a traditional breakfast and prepare to go back to Manado. Arrive in Manado between 9 -11 AM. - Breakfast.

Your dive operator can assist you with this. There are low cost Homestays with families located right outside the entrance to the park. We picked up a diver who had stayed with a family and she had a wonderful time staying with them
