Can anyone recommend anywhere that has the following :

1. Good macro photography opportunities
2. No mass divers (I assume I will have to go South and avoid sharm, hurghada - but is marsa alam ok ?)
3. Quiet place i.e. no all night parties.
4. Wife can come on the boat and snorkel.
5. Certain degree of comfort i.e. we are not backpackers.

I have tried Dahab in the past (and enjoyed it) but have mostly dived in Asia (Sipadan, Bunaken, Bali, Lembeh).

Thanks for your help,

Richard

For macro go to the north of the red sea :)

Try Nuweiba - lots of quiet sites and no boats.
The house reef at the Hilton Coral Beach is one of the best - you could spend a whole week just on that one small reef. Chance of frogfish, seahorses, dwarf lion fish, lots of lionfish, stone fish, scorpion fish & morays.
Also some good dives on other sites.
Hotel very quiet, lots of beach and easy access to the sea for snorkelling.
Go on the Emperor Dives website for the on site dive centre.
I worked up there on and off for three years and never got tired of the little house reef.
Have attached a couple of recent phots taken there.
