I was diving in Wiarton on the weekend. weather was great, water was greater .:D CAn anyone give me information on diving Centenial park between Owen Sound and Wiarton. The entry looks very friendly but was wondering if anyone has seen the bottom?

Thanks

Actually, my in-laws live just outside Wiarton, right on the water. I'm there all the time.

I was actually in the water, testing out my new Mares Isotherm - I had to push the ice out of the way as I was wading around. You must have gone in on Sunday afternoon, after the ice went out?

I know Groundhog Divers does a lot of dives at Cedar Hill, just at the bottom of the hill under the Bruce Caves (just outside Oxenden).

Chances are good Groundhog246 will see this, but otherwise, you may want to send him a PM. I could tell you more, but I'm not certified for another 32 days (not that anyones counting!)

The bottom at wiarton is fairly boring, rocky for a bit, then mostly mud. The slope is pretty gradual and is an easy entrance. At Cyprus, you can get some decent depth, but must be willing to swim a bit. On the north Side of Colpoys bay, the slope is more gradual, and Ive never gone deeper than about 35 feet. Ive never dove Centennial Park, so this post may be a load of crap;) , but I imagine it is similar to the rest of the area.

Good Luck

I would love to do some diving up in colpoys bay. I don't imagine seeing much. I have been to the bottom at 170 on a coarse I did. In the middle on the bay. GREAT vis. I could see for miles. Or at least tens of feet:D

Would be a great place to sink a ship. nice sand bottom. No current. protected bay. Hmmmmm....

I haven't dove Centennial park. From talking to people it's reported to be sheets of rock with boulders spread around. Not much to see. Seeing you're in Waterloo, If you gave Darlene a call at Tri-City Divers, I think she could help.
I have done quite a few dives at the aforementioned Cedar Hill Park (Provincial Day use). It's got quite a good shore entry, you have to watch for a current when the wind is from the West with any strength.
What was the water temp at Wiarton? Can you be more specific where in Wiaton? I'm really chafing at the bit to get wet, but at the moment busy trying to get our boat ready to launch. It's booked to go in May 8 or 9 and I have to rebuild the exhaust system, paint the bottom, replace the holding tank, replace 2 ports (windows for ye landlubbers) and remove and caulk some deck fittings.
I would expect if the weather co-operates, I'll take gear along on the May long weekend and hopefully get in a dip or two. Whether we drive over to Cedar Hill or maybe dive off the boat (we keep it in Meaford) remains to be seen.

Thought I'd add this shot from about 55ft at Cedar Hill.

And you'll find this growing around the 32 foot contour

LOL.. I have the same problem.. Boating looks so relaxing until you have to do the maintenance... I still have to patch up some stress cracks, put the waterheater back together.. bolt the outdrive back on.. and paint the bottom.. and of course the obligatory cleaning... Where do you keep your boat? Mine's in Lake Ontario.. Port Dalhousie to be exact..
With any luck I'll buy myself a nice big dive boat this year :) Diesel power all the way.. Woohoo..

I actually enjoy some of the maintenance chores. I figure about 10 to 12 hours of actual labour will have it in the water (it's the 2 hour each way drive that kills me), and there's not a lot to do other than hosing down the decks through the season. We don't do a lot of motoring (the diesel would actually like to be used more), we spent less than $20 on fuel last season, so an oil change before winter lay-up is just about it. This years big budget item is an Auto-Pilot. Had one on our last boat ans we really missed it last year.

We sail out of Meaford (Georgian Bay, just East of Owen Sound).

Centinial is not a bad place to go diving. The one problem with it is a really slow start. You have to go out quite a ways to get over your head. Cedar hill has a much quicker start and would be closer to Wiarton anyways. The bottem of both Centinial and Cedar is fairly similar in the fact that they have rocky sandy bottoms that gradually get deeper. Cedar has got some more things to see placed by divers. Other places near Wairton would be Dyers bay, about 30 mins north. There is a Jeep and an old anchor to see there that is pretty cool.

A long walk is an understatement. It stays shallow a long time. Ceder hill is a better choice to get wet and not much further down the road.

I can still see them (I had to go back a page and look to see what you were talking about). Hope to get more/better this year and I'm making the move to video.

Hi all

Where is Cedar Hill? .... ie road, town etc.

I understand it's someplace between Owen Sound and Wiarton, but don't know the details

Thanks
