Flying with Speargun

Anyone have experience flying with a speargun? Are there any special precautions you have to take? Any info you may have is good!

PS. Just put in in the bag, why would that be a problem? Now taking it as a carry-on, that's a different story :)

I'm don't see why there would be a problem. Just sit on the plan with your loaded three band 52 inch Riffle and begin screaming "Praise Ala!"

Well that is funny because that is about the size of my gun and it is a riffe. I am just curious, I have never flown with my gun before and am getting ready to take a trip! I don't see it being a problem but just wanted to make sure.

I would think the airlines would want that to be checked as "special luggage" rather than having it in the bag due to the chance of getting themselves "stabbed" on the spear(s)..

I have flown with firearms before and as long as the thing is checked in properly there shouldnt be any problems.

FIrst thing I would do is make the gun as slimline as possible. Remove the trigger/handle of possible. pack in a separate bag. Pack the gun in a PVC tube and I would wrap the gun in socks or something similar to add some padding. Then of course cap it well. extra shaft should be shipped in a separate tube to avoid any damage to the gun stock or anything like that.

When you check into the airport be sure and let them know what it is and the airport websites have a godo weath of knowledge on how to properly bring them along. Every airport is probably different and different airlines probably have different rules. Just do research...

ALso you probably will not be allowed to bring back food. its a custom and health issue. SO whatever you plan to shoot there is probably going to end up staying there.

Ah, the good ol' days when I flew guns to Europe, middle east, California and South America. Mostly, the gun would be carried onboard and placed in the hanging closet. On a trip to Spain, the pilots carried the gun in the cockpit. About the time I was junketing to Hawaii, my guns had become more expensive and were placed in custom, padded soft cases with handles and zippers. They were given special handling meaning that somebody carried the gun to the plane and placed in baggage.

You need to check with the individual airline.

Usually firearms require a special tag, and sometimes a lockable case.

Hopefully you don't get the question I got from the employee of the airline about my bow.

She asked if it was loaded.....
