I don't have regular health insurance right now. Is it possible to get dive insurance for your training if you don't have the c-card yet? Also, will they insure you if you don't have regular health ins. already?

Dive accidents during training are relatively rare, but to cover the risk DAN (Diver's Alert Network) offers a program which is free for students.

Your instructor must submit your name and address to DAN before your diving begins. Coverage takes effect at 12:01 am the day after the roster is submitted (via fax or the web). You must sign the enrollment agreement and agree to let DAN have your name and address so they can try to sell you a DAN membership and insurance later.

We provide this to all of our OW students. Ask your shop or instructor to do the same. We've never had a claim but it makes me feel better.
